Type Motion - "FINE"
This project was created in Adobe After Effects, and was my first experience working in this program. The letters were first traditionally printed using a letter press, which lends a great textural element to the letterforms. They were then scanned into Photoshop for processing before final import into After Effects. The focus was on using the basic transformation tools to their maximum effect on presenting the concept behind the word choice. This was achieved by first outlining and brainstorming the word "Fine" and any narrative elements that could be used for an engaging animation. Then a storyboard was sketched to plan out the movements and effects to be used for each letter, as well as the timing and flow of the overall animation. "Fine" has become a ubiquitously used word for casual conversations. We greet one another often with a friendly-sounding "How are you?" - a very open ended question which could allow someone to share a truth about their real feelings, however, the response is typically an inconsequentially stated "Fine." This in most cases satisfies the greeting transaction without any awkward truth-sharing of how someone might actually be in the moment. For this animation, the focus is this use of the word to cover up or hide the reality of many: they are not actually fine at all. The word appears suddenly as a representation of this quick need to shield others from our inner feelings, but the letters soon begin expressing their inner tensions each in their own way. The acronym F.I.N.E. has become common in many realms of self-help or therapy, standing for "F****d up, Insecure, Neurotic, Emotional," and a reminder for when one instinctually uses this word to check in with their true feelings in case they are habitually avoiding or covering them up to their own detriment.

Another Alternative soundtrack but similarly to the other alternative video again after trying different sound tracks, the first one is still stronger and works best with the paper mechanics and the other stings.
