When I was a kid I was an avid reader. Along about the fifth grade, I graduated from heroic dog stories and World War I fighter ace stories to science fiction. I read Robert A. Heinlein, Isaac Asimov, and Arthur C. Clarke, of course, but one of my favorite authors was A. E. van Vogt.
