A high school senior is not being allowed to take part in his school's graduation ceremony because he was picked in the MLB draft. Yes, you heard that right. Ty Buttrey, a right-handed pitcher, has been told that he is not allowed to walk at the graduation ceremony because he missed the mandatory graduation practice. He had a good reason though. The graduation practice banned the use of cell phones, and he needed to have a phone on him in case he was selected in the MLB draft. And it turns out he was selected later that night by the Boston Red Sox in the fourth round. Still, rules are rules, which means that Buttrey won't be at the real graduation ceremony either.

Graduation is a special time in a teenager's life. For me personally, being able to walk that stage was one of the proudest moments of my life to this point. So I think it's wrong to ban someone from being able to graduate with the rest of the class over something this stupid. What do you expect the kid to do? Attend the practice and ignore the teams around the league who may have been trying to get in touch with him? Of course not. There's not a single person out there who would have made that decision any differently than Buttrey did. Perhaps he'll still get lucky and the decision will be overturned due to the pressure of the situation. Buttrey is now a pro baseball player, and has a chance to be the most popular alumnus to ever set foot in the school.  The smart thing would be to honor him and let him graduate just like a normal kid.
