Spring Rose Blooming In Winter Snow
Her footsteps continued, long after she had stopped paying attention to them. The shadows swirling around her as she walked from the shop she called home. He hadnt called her back, he hadnt stopped her, he wasnt coming for her. She didnt expect him to, how many times had she left without a word before?
But she wished he would.
Instead the silence of the night enveloped her and left her with only the sounds of her breath and the beat of her heart. Such a quiet, resilient thing that kept her moving. That pounded and willed her to move forward. So she did, though each step hurt more and more. Like a dagger driving inch by inch the further she went from the building now but a dot behind her. The pain began to radiate through her, a hum at first but soon a drumming thunder that caused her to falter and lean against a wall of a building. A loud clap and she lifted those shadowed eyes to the sky. The moon seemed to shine on her, as if trying to coax a smile from its old friend. How many nights was it her only companion? Had that ever change?
She pressed herself from the wall and continued to walk, though the night was interrupted by white light. Illuminating the Earth for a second before the shadows fell over her once more. She didnt know when she felt it, but it was apparent now. She didnt just see that idiot as a friend and companion. As someone to trust and to protect. Somehow through all those late nights, him protecting her, always there when she needed him and when she didnt....she began to fall.
She was falling and mid fall she began to see a side she never anticipated. Hypersensitivity was a result of falling, and she became aware of things that once were overlooked. Words started but never finished, looks never intended. They began to pile on her heart. She didnt want to doubt the man who she had never had reason to. Not, when he did so much for her, with her. Or was that too just a move?
She was always reckless, doing things her way even if for right. Was he no different? He did what he felt was right. Right? She blinked slowly, not noticing that the sky had opened and rain was falling freely on her, against her.
Falling.
Yes, falling, just like her. She lowered her eyes to the ground, watching as the drops fell, colliding violently with the ground. Exploding upward and falling to rest once more. Was that her fate? To fall and collide violently with the reality that she was tangled in a web of careful lies and played to a personal tune? Was she nothing more to him than a pawn? Were they all just that? Objects to be used and discarded at leisure? She had done everything that she could to help him. She had done everything that he wanted. She had done exactly what he wanted and one day she would have served her purpose and to him be no more.
Falling like the rain. She was blooming, violently against the odds but would fall prey to cold and the bitter winds of reality. She was trapped in an illusion and the beauty she was creating would be destroyed. She would wither, decay, and be no more.
Just like he wanted?
Planned?
A rain streaked hand went to her chest as she lowered her eyes to the ground, letting rain and tears mingle. She would be killed by the man she tried to save.
But she was a cat. . .
. . .and if she was falling. . .
. . .she would land on her feet.
