the doctor has a “what were YOU doing at the devil’s sacrament” moment spying on jamie and his love interest with her ex-fiance, and he and said ex have an incredibly charged conversation about pain and loss. i can’t possibly do this scene justice, just listen to it for yourselves.

jamie's love interest, celine, tries to gain his affection by "clowning" for him (so jamie likes clowns does he 🤔)

the doctor pulls an extremely risky stunt with the tardis and puts himself in serious danger for no better reason than "[jamie] asked [him] to"

jamie sees the doctor collapse and decides the best move is to bring him back to jamie's own bedroom. he's unconscious for a week. this is not elaborated on.

celine leaves jamie a note that includes the line "look after that doctor of yours. he loves you dearly, as do i" and like yes platonic love is real and important but she's specifically equating it to her decidedly romantic love for jamie. it also could be a callback to the faceless ones where he told polly to “look after” ben, and they did end up romantically involved

the fourth doctor shows up and defends jamie's honor by calling back to said earlier conversation about loss and calling him "the very best of men"

And then LITERALLY in only the time it takes Victoria to put on a new dress the Doctor and Jamie are standing way too close to each other having a heatless argument about a Tardis light and sharing a sandwich. Like, these idiots are so domestic it’s ridiculous and they are not going to let some evil doppelgänger without the sense to shut the doors before hurtling them into the unending vortex of Time interfere with their regularly scheduled Married Banter ™
