~ The perfect holiday gift for the taxidermy aficionado on your list; Pedigreed Rogue Taxidermy created by the person who put it on the map. $295 Email purchase inquiries to <[email protected]> Newly completed mount. The backstory on this Rogue Taxidermy staple and synopsis of the origin of Rogue Taxidermy: I am one of the 3 founding members of the Rogue Taxidermy art movement. I introduced 2-headed chicks to the worldwide web in 2002. Two years later one of my chicks made its international debut in Bizarre magazine. Dozens of other articles followed in rapid succession. It was this initial press that lead to me meeting the other two visionary artists who I started the Rogue Taxidermy art movement with, Scott Bibus and Robert Marbury. My cohorts and I invented the term “Rogue Taxidermy” to unite our three styles of work, and in doing so, the genre was officially born. In 2004 we exhibited our work together for the 1st time. This was the world’s 1st Rogue Taxidermy exhibition. One of my 2-headed chicks was among the work included in this groundbreaking exhibition. At that point in time, our art was as controversial as it was innovative. Images of our work went viral and the show made the front page of the New York Times art section shortly thereafter. An underground Rogue Taxidermy craze quickly ensued and eventually gave rise to an entire art movement that continues to gain momentum exponentially. What began in the U.S. rapidly exploded into a global phenomenon as artists from around the world adopted the term ‘Rogue taxidermy’ to describe their work. The art form has since moved above ground and the genre is now acknowledged by the mainstream art world. Rogue Taxidermy created a trend in the world of art that changed the perception and assumptions about taxidermy, not only in galleries, but also in contemporary aesthetics. The genre's presence in galleries spilled over into popular culture and paved the way for the assimilation of non-rogue taxidermy into mainstream decorating trends. Taxidermy-mania has since swept over the United States, as attested to by the countless interior design magazines and store window displays across the country featuring decorative objects that mimic taxidermy. My 2-headed chicks became an internet icon of Rogue Taxidermy following our inaugural exhibition and subsequently the concept was co-opted by the D.I.Y. taxidermy circuit and pop-up taxidermy workshops. But like the saying goes “Often imitated, but never duplicated”. Don’t miss your chance to own the genuine article and an object that truly represents part of Rogue Taxidermy history.
