When I am meeting someone new I usually have a question that I ask right away: “What TV shows do you like?”
Some people ask about books and music, but since I am a TV show fanatic – I like to ask this question first. What I have figured out in recent years is the simple fact that people are what they watch. And it really works! If someone follows me on twitter I also usually check if they are a part of any TVgroups on twitter. Or if someone asks for a friend request on Facebook, I go straight to the TV Likes section. So how does it work for me? Let me give you an example:
The Vampire Diaries, 90210, Pretty Little Liars, Gossip Girl – This will either be an emotional girl looking for true love (often very immature) or her gay best friend. Although sometimes people watch the shows because of the hot half-naked bodies that are on screen all the time.
Modern Family, 2 Broke Girls, The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother – Someone laid back and sociable. Often with a good sense of humor, but sometimes people watch it so they can pick up funny shit to say to others.
Dexter, CSI, Bones, Criminal Minds – A bit dark, but that’s a good sign in my book. Unless they are serial killers looking for tips.
American Horror Story, 666 Park Avenue – Horror is also good. Adventurous minds.
Glee, Smash, Nashville – Probably gay. Or just a music lover.
Doctor Who, Supernatural, Haven, Fringe, Misfits – Sci-Fi freak! These can be tricky to generalize.
Battlestar Galactica, Star Track, Stargate, Firefly – A geek. But a cool geek.
And yes, I know that generalizing is bad and that we are all beautiful in our way because God makes no mistakes and blah blah…Don’t take this too seriously. On the other hand – can you honestly say I am wrong? Don’t make me start a twitter debate because you are going to lose for sure!
