Lately I've been thinking of Soundwave and Blaster being the only cassette carriers in the whole franchise, which makes me wonder did Cybertronians ever consist of more of them, or are they simply the only ones?
Soundblaster and Twincast were rebuilt from the two (in g1) which still makes them the only two tape decks to exist at the time.
I don't recall any canon material elaborating on cassette carriers existence and why they're supposedly so rare. Often Soundwave is the only one, since Blaster sadly doesn't appear in some continuities 😭💔
IDW and Cyberverse had Soundblaster exist as a separate character, either as Soundwave's clone or a rival to him. Still, they have the same frame as Soundwave so it brings the question would most cassette carriers look like Soundwave or Blaster if there were more? Kinda like most seekers look the same.
There's also Logos Prime... Soundwave's design so superior even a prime gets his frame ✨
In conclusion the tape decks have all been Soundwave's and Blaster's designs, so they're the only unique ones to ever exist. I'd love to see more of them!!
The lack of canon information about their background gives fan works full freedom to explore ideas for them and how carrier mechs form their companionship with the cassettes/symbionts. Sometimes Blaster and Soundwave are described to be the only ones left of their kind 😭💔
