DAY6 - ‘The Book of Us : The Demon’ Album Unboxing
It’s a little bit late but I still want to share this with everyone. The pandemic and months of quarantine made want to be lazy all day long and at the same time be productive, thus, having late posts/upload.
I’ve decided to share my unboxing with a flip through for DAY6′s 6th mini album - ‘The Book of Us : The Demon.’ The album has its titled track, ‘Zombie,’ which made an impact to everyone who was able to listen to it - a My Day or not. It’s the perfect song during times like these we are facing.

This post is quite different from my other blog posts as I want everyone to be aware of the qualifications to have a PWD ID under Visual Disability. Having the ID has been abused several times especially by non-PWDs.
I have been hearing and reading about PWD misconceptions about availing the PWD ID based on one's Error of Refraction’s amount (eye grade) or the history of wearing eyeglasses for a long amount of years.
Before anything else, I would want to say that I, myself wears glasses. I started wearing one since I was in Grade School and it just increases as I got older. The increase was primarily because of hereditary/genetics and doing a lot of near-related works which could not be avoided but could be lessened. I have -3.50D of Myopia (nearsightedness) and -1.00D of Astigmatism and know what it feels to have blurry vision without glasses or contact lenses.
My vision is definitely blurry without glasses/contact lenses especially at far.
Can I qualify for a PWD ID? NO.
With my glasses/contact lenses, I can see the 20/20th line.
Can I qualify for a PWD ID? NO.
I’ve been wearing glasses for about 15 years.
Can I qualify for a PWD ID? NO.
Overall, I’m not qualified to have a PWD ID since my vision could be corrected with glasses or contact lenses.
Below are the definition to be called as Visual Disability as per WHO (World Health Organization)
Hoping with this simple post, it would clarify some misconceptions about having a PWD ID. For better understanding, you can visit your Optometrist or Ophthalmologist and at the same time have your annual eye check-up.
Personally, I’m thankful that I can see better than 20/70 (even until the 20/20th line) with my glasses or contact lenses on. I’ve dealt with patients asking if I could give the highest grade or any way I can so that they could read even the biggest letter, and that just breaks my heart. Fortunately in our profession, we have Optometrists who specialize in Low Vision – a more in-depth eye exam with training and ways to adapt to the current situation regarding their eyesight.
To those who are reading this and still planning to get a PWD ID even if you currently have healthy eyes and have a vision better than 20/70:
Would you still rather have 20/20 vision with glasses, contact lenses, after surgeries and all the medication given to you? Or have that PWD ID and could only see the bigger letters?
Carleen Goes to Taiwan: Day 4 (Chiang Kai-shiek + Sun Yat-sen + Taipei 101 + Ximending Night Market)
The last part for my Taiwan series 2019!
Usually, I like spending the last day in a country in a “chill day.” That’s why for the last day, our itinerary was mainly within the city of Taipei.
Chiang Kai-shek, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Taipei 101, and the Ximending Night Market were our itinerary for day 4. As I remembered, it was the warmest day we spent in Taiwan since the first 3 days were cold, rainy and windy.

DAY 4
MAY 26, 2019
CHIANG KAI-SHEK MEMORIAL HALL
The memorial hall is one of the tourist attraction in Taipei city. It is a monument of former president, Chiang Kai-shek.
Besides the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial hall, there is a National Concert Hall on the left of the hall, and opposite is the National Theater. Admission is free upon visiting CKS Memorial Hall.
To go to CKS Memorial Hall, take the MRT (NT$16 - EasyCard)
1.From Ximen Station: take Songshan-Xindian/Green Line (to Taipower Building/ to Xindian)
2. Alight at Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall Station

The sun was up on our last day in Taiwan which explains all the “squinting” photos. This memorial hall is popular among tourist and it was nice to be able to see the place in person.

SUN YAT-SEN MEMORIAL HALL
Coming from CKS Memorial Hall to SYS Memorial hall is quite easy. Take the MRT again from the CKS Station (NT$20 - EasyCard):
1. Take Tamsui-Xinyi/Red Line (to Beitou/ to Tamsui)
2. Alight at Taipei Main Station
3. Transfer to Bannan/Blue Line (to Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center)
4. Alight at Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall Station

We weren’t able to explore the memorial hall since there was an ongoing event in the place but going in the memorial hall is free of charge.

After going to the two memorial halls, we went back to Ximen to go back to our hotel and rest before going to Taipei 101.
TAIPEI 101
We went to Taipei 101 via the MRT again. To go there from Ximen Station (NT$20 - EasyCard):
1. Take Songshan-Xindian/Green Line (to Taipower Building/ to Xindian) f
2. Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall Station
3. Transfer to Tamsui-Xinyi Line (to Xiangshan)
4. Alight at Taipei 101/World Trade Center Station
We had our late lunch at Taipei 101 in their foodcourt on the first floor.
I forgot the name of the restaurant, but I ordered fried chicken with rice. One order of fried chicken is NT$95 (PHP161.50) and a cup of rice is NT$30 (PHP51).
After having our lunch, we went to the main lobby for the Taipei 101 to get out tickets. Our tickets were purchased beforehand via Klook at Php859/person.
Getting the tickets from the machine was easy and fast. We chose the time slot fro 5:00pm to 5:30pm so that it wouldn’t be that hot and we would see the view during nighttime while being at Taipei 101.

There was a short video telling about the big metal ball in the middle of the building. The metal ball was designed to balance the whole building especially when there is an earthquake.

We stayed for about 1-2 hours to explore the 3 floors.

XIMENDING NIGHT MARKET
Last night in Taiwan was spent in the nearest night market from our hotel, Ximending Night Market. We purposely put this on our last night so that we can stay up late since our hotel was just near.

Mashed Potato with Cheese (NT$85/PHP144.50)
Lychee Apple Juice (NT$75/PHP127.50)
The food that we bought were all delicious especially the chicken! It was actually juicy even though we ate it when we returned to our hotel. Potato with cheese was also yummy and the Lychee Apple Juice was very refreshing!

Carleen Goes to Taiwan: Day 3 (Yehliu Geopark + Jiufen Old Street + Shifen Sky Lantern + Shu Shin Bou Wagashi Museum + Shilin Night Market)
Third part of my travel blog in Taiwan, as stated in my title, will be the trio: Yehliu Geopark, Jiufen Old Street, and Shifen Sky Lantern. With the activity package we bought was an additional activity which was the Pineapple Cake Making in Shu Shin Bou Wagashi Museum. As the day ended, we spent the night at the Shilin Night Market.
The activity package we bought was from Klook and costs PHP 1,056. The package included transportation from the meet-up place to the different itineraries, entrance fees, sky lantern fee, and a tour guide.

DAY 3
MAY 25, 2019
First on our itinerary was the Yehliu Geopark.
YEHLIU GEOPARK
Yehliu Geopark is known for its geological formations. Some of the popular formations are the Queen’s Head and Princess’ Head. Our tour guide mentioned that the neck of the Queen’s Head might break in about 2 years time since the neck part is getting thinner, thus, it is difficult to support the weight of the head.
Here’s what the Yehliu Geopark looks like seeing from the top.
The Yehliu Geopark was a good place to visit. Unfortunately, we had a limited time in exploring the place since we were part of a tour. When I visit Taiwan next time, I’ll definitely make sure to drop by Yehliu again to spend more time and see the other formations.
JIUFEN OLD STREET
Next one on our itinerary was the famous Jiufen Old Street. It is known for its busy streets with food stalls and a view of nature. If I remember it correctly, Jiufen Old Street is also known for the Japanese anime, Spirited Away, which the location was based in it.
Before entering the busy street, our tour guide let us passed by in another street to see the beautiful view of the mountain and sea, and to let us know the other side of Jiufen Old Street.

The end of the street we passed through was an entry going to the Jiufen Old Street.
Beside the stairs going to Jiufen Old Street is the Shengping Theater. The theater was built at the year 1934 and was used for Opera performances.
It was lunchtime and we had limited time so we looked for the nearest place we can eat at. Upon climbing up the stairs, we found a small restaurants that was good enough for us.
We ordered 4 Minced Pork Rice at NT$50 (PHP85) each and one order of Xiao Long Bao at NT$80 (PHP136). It was quite affordable since we just paid NT$70 (PHP119) each.
The restaurant’s ambiance was good and airconditioned. Food was very delicious that if given a chance, I would definitely order another one!
The street was actually a very long walk! Side by side, there were food stalls and “pasalubongs” to buy. It was crowded with people on the day we went there. However, our tour guide said it was actually a few in population compared during holidays and Sundays.
Again, due to limited time, we weren’t able to go up the tea house to actually see it. So here’s another place to go back to when I’m in Taiwan again.
SHIFEN OLD STREET
The old street at Shifen is known as the lantern street. Before, the lanterns were used as signals during the war and now tourists go here to fly their very own lantern. The lanterns, just like the candles, are color coded with each color comes a meaning or for what you are wishing for.
1 lantern is good for 4 people. Our lantern was included in the Klook package and red was given to us. You can change the color of the lantern, be it another solid color or a multiple colors with an additional fee. If I remembered it correctly, the prices for 1 colored lantern is at NT$150 (PHP255) and the multiple colored lantern is at NT$200 (PHP340).
For our lantern, red means health and peace.
To those, who are wondering if it’s made with plastic, it is not. The lanterns are all made in bamboo papers that will land in an area in Taiwan where it often rains.

SHU SHIN BOU WAGASHI MUSEUM (PINEAPPLE CAKE MAKING)

It was a good experience to be able to make some pineapple cake. It might a simple one but it was an experience to remember.
After making the cakes, we were directed to their shop for us to try their products and if we would want to buy some. Personally, their pineapple cakes tastes amazing and the almond seaweed crackers!
After the Klook tour, we decided to go to Shilin Night Market - our 3rd night of trying the night markets in Taiwan.
SHILIN NIGHT MARKET
Shilin Night Market is one of the biggest and popular night markets in Taiwan.
To go to Shilin Night Market, we took the MRT from Taipei Main Station.
1. Take Tamsui-Xinyi Line/Red Line (to Beitou/to Tamsui)
2. Alight at Jiantan Station EXIT 1
The entrance to the night market is diagonally across to the left of MRT Jiantan Station Exit 1. Again, alight at Jiantan Station and NOT at Shilin Station.

The sweet potato was good to try but not my favorite within the food we tried at Shilin Night Market. Burned Eight Claw Octopus was delicious and tastes like Takoyaki. Even though we were in Taiwan, we bought a Korean food - Tteokbokki. The Tteokbokki was delicious too. Also, not in the photo was a long Shoestring Fries in eaweed flavor that costs NT$70 (PHP119).
