PLOT POINTS:

The Seven deadly sins may as well deem this man and his son their protegés. He is cruel, wicked, and delights in other’s pain. It is a wicked pleasure he takes in the irony of his own character: the Bible states that each man is fearfully and wonderfully made. Fearfully and wonderfully indeed.

The mother of his son is unknown; therefore, rumors swell about how much claim he has. Is she a member of the peerage, or a common whore? Before he dies, the Whip intends to see his son wed to the most titled, spoiled brat that he can find, and through whatever means necessary. 

It was six months ago that his hands, once so steady before, began to shake. The tremors were at first far and few between. Now they come all to easily. The first time his new wife saw them, she was hidden away from court to hide the bruises he gave. But she is the only one who knows, and she is so easily biddable that he needs not worry.

His sovereign gave him a goal: stop the Dutch at all costs. The dispute over the claims to the Netherland’s rule have been a source of contention ever since they liberated themselves, now they seek the Archduchess’s support for the Spanish stake at their throne. His task is to keep the Archduchess on their side.

CONNECTIONS:

The Snake Charmer: His son, but a regrettable bastard. The mother only left the babe at his household; there was no denying that the babe was his. He grew to be so like his father, yet with a mind that may yet overcome his own.

The Lost: His third wife of only a year and a half. She was young, unprepared for the duties of Duchess and wife. And unprepared for the storm to be weathered that is her husband.

The House of Orange-Nassau: They are his political rivals; the Black Sheep his main rival for the Empress’s affections while his wife, the Wilting Bloom, is perhaps an easy target in which to weaken his enemy.

The Autocrat: The target; though the Archduchess is a formidable woman, he must remind her of the ancient and revered ties between the two royal orders, and be ruthless in doing so.
