In Memorial
I've been in a pretty melancholy place lately and thinking about those I've lost. As a result I'm making sims of some of them who were gone too soon or in injust ways. No one cares about this but me I'm sure but I needed to get it out of my system. Names changed for privacy. Here's the first batch.
I knew Kat for many years. She was the kindest and gentlest person I've ever met as well as one of the most beautiful. Her home life was pretty rough financially but loving, like mine. That's how we bonded as teens since we were the poorest kids in a pretty rich neighbourhood. She went to a different school but we had a lot of the same struggles as we grew up. When I got clean at 17 she was right with me the entire time. I moved away and we kept in touch frequently although I'll forever regret not making time for her when I visted my hometown for my Mom's funeral in 2021.
She was with a guy that our friends all hated. He was overtly abusive and cruel to her including shaving her head in her sleep because she told him she wanted to get a haircut and he was upset at the style she chose. When she finally decided to get out we were so proud of her and she had a great plan. Unfortunately her body was found less than 5 miles outside of our hometown. She almost made it to her Mom's. The boyfriend took the coward's way out after brutally beating her to death. He was found by police having committed suicide.
Kat was 33 years old when she was killed.
I met Cimbala when I was 13 and she was 14. We hung out and enjoyed each other's company including walking from school to her bus stop every day after school. Her family was wealthy but she was down to earth and fun. She had a rebellious streak and a sailor's mouth. Her family raised her in a different faith that I regret to say I never asked about. Even though she wasn't christian she loved Jesus because she thought the white depiction of him that is everywhere was super sexy. Being a staunch atheist myself I've always found that funny. She graduated with highest marks and started attending the local university for biochemistry. She eventually changed her major to Architecture after discovering she loved it. She never dated in school because she wasn't allowed to and she wasn't interested anyway. We speculated for a while that she was on the ace spectrum. As it turned out she was gay and just hadn't realized it because that wasn't something her family ever would have allowed.
Technically she may be alive out there somewhere, we just don't know. She came out to her family at 19 after her first year of college and was shocked and so happy that they were super supportive. Their support made her decide to go with them when they visited her grandparents in India. She was going to stay and do summer classes before that Unfortunately after she left for India the last message anyone received from her was an email to her sorta-girlfriend stating she was devastated because her family had lied about being supportive and were being very cruel to her. No one has heard from her since, she has no social media presence and we've searched. Short of hiring a PI in India or going ourselves (which I believe her cousin actually did attempt but never found anything) we have no idea what happened to her. She never returned as far as we know. No one has heard from or seen her since 2009.
I'll post more later. This has already gotten me emotionally tired.
