Darragh peered out the window with innate suspicion, it was closer to midnight than eleven and he had been on the cusp of falling asleep when motion outside the front door had roused him. The rainfall had been heavy all night, a peaceful sound, but it wasn’t enough to drown out the rattle of someone at the lockbox and now that he was in the living room he couldn’t miss the movement of a shadow pacing the porch.

He doesn’t know the neighbourhood well, but the energy of it all was weird, and still he couldn’t help himself when he unlocked and opened the door a fraction to speak to the person on the other side who was acting so strangely.
