Stage 2 Studios Client Video!
Boy this was an experience! Check out the navigation heading Tagged: TV602 on my initial contact and agreement with Stage 2.
So the usual happened, emails were sent back and forth between myself and Dan and we agreed Iâd shoot initially on 15th November, but I ended up going back again on the 16th to get a few more shots.
Dan told me he wanted a client film that would essentially consist of a band (Small Town Echoes) recording/performing with a few shots of the studio thrown in. The end result actually doesnât look much different to a typical music video which is mildly frustrating, but at the same time I recognise that it is a client video which doesnât necessarily mean an advert-styled piece.
I sent over some initial examples of client videos Dan might want for our piece to be style similarly to, however not many of them really ticked any boxes he was after, so we agreed that it would comprise of about 70% band and 30% studio.
The shoot was a long day as Small Town Echoes had booked their slot for the entire day - something I was not prepared for which resulted in not having any lunch! Fortunately my Mum cooked a beast meal for tea that night though so all was good.

Small Town Echoes and Ben Turner, Audio Producer
On this shoot I used a Canon EOS 5D Mkiii was actually produced stunning results that I was very happy with. I was really nervous to start off with because I hadnât had much/any experience with DSLRâs by myself before, so it was in a way extra stress on top of running a shoot entirely by myself as well as making sure I captured good footage.
Another spanner in the works was that Ben announced mid-shoot I should get in the studio as âthis is the song that band want for their music videoâ which was a bit of a shock to say the least! It wasnât agreed anywhere beforehand that I would also produce a music video for the band, which resulted in my storage and battery being used up twice as fast. It also put a bit more pressure on the edits as I then had two things to edit, but in hindsight Iâm glad it worked that way as I now have both a client video and music video I produced completely independently. It was definitely an experience! Lots of hard work too, but it totally paid off.
Dan also says when I graduate to let him know as he may have some paid work for me! Theyâre a great company and the team are lovely, Iâll definitely be getting in touch with them in the future to produce more independent stuff for them and other bands. All in all Iâm pretty happy with the results, even if I did c*ck up a few times!
