I know this one is probably just for me but I needed to see him in costume.

Where can I listen to it? Is it free? Or is there a place to listen to it for free? Can’t pay too much atm

(If it’s Spotify Premium, I can try to get that but idk where else really. I have the free version. Soo many adds. I used to have an app but the Apple app store deleted it afterwards after a few years)

Hello anon! I'm sorry to say that Turpin isn't free.

It's published by Big Finish...who in the past I genuinely thought only made Doctor Who (and related) audiobooks, and I haven't listened to one of those since the Eleventh Doctor when Arthur Darvill used to narrate them.

Anyway, the second half of the series isn't coming out until November, and while I don't endorse this, especially when it comes to a company that definitely doesn't have the money of big streaming companies, I'm sure someone will put it online between then and now.

I listened to the first half of Turpin today because Dónal is the lead, obviously, but also because I grew up listening to audio dramas and radio plays, so this is very much my thing anyway.

I do think audio drama can take a minute to adjust to if you’re not used to it. Without any visuals, the performances and sound design have to do absolutely everything: the action, the setting, the atmosphere, even the things a character would normally communicate with a look or a tiny movement. So it can sound a little heightened at first, but I think you just have to meet it on its own terms and lean into it.

And Turpin makes that very easy. The cast are excellent (Dónal especially, obvs) and the sound design is wonderful. It feels really vivid and atmospheric without ever becoming hard to follow. A solid listen I enjoyed it very much!

Can't believe I have to wait till November for the rest of it.
