There's an annual Type Symposium that every regional professor attends (aside from Sada and Turo, who refuse to personally attend events to avoid accidentally running into each other, they're that divorced). The purpose of the Type Symposium is to hash out details on Pokemon types and whether or not a species has enough traits to be classified as a different or completely new type. The Type Symposium is also referred to as "a fucking bloodbath" for this exact reason.
