Perimeterwalker: You know how Yung's always like "what's [x]" when he sees something he doesn't know?

Perimeterwalker: So he's chilling in the park with Phoenix like usual

Perimeterwalker: And in the middle of the conversation, he turns to Phoenix with this apparently serious expression

me: peri ur scarin me

Perimeterwalker: And says "hey Phoenix, what's updog?"

me: pHOENIX

me: stares in utter stunned silence

me: a lifetime of opportunities and he’s never had an opportunity this perfect.

me: the gates of Valhalla have opened to him. this is destiny extending its hand.

me: he’s…finally proven himself Dad Enough for whatever fate-controlling deity might be out there to present him with such a golden reward.

me: a dastardly yet proud smile creeps over his lips, eyes shining like they did in his youth, a joyous tension filling every space in his suddenly light body

me: and he speaks with the voice of a man who has found his place in the world

me: “Not much,” he coos, a chorus of angels speaking with him,

“It’s nice that you can take time out of your busy schedule to see me.” 

It was always obvious when Miles spoke tongue-in-cheek. He had a particular way of smirking, a glint in his gray eyes, and even his tone reflected that he wasn’t being serious. Phoenix was only ever busy in small bursts when cases came up. Miles, however, was the one who often had to set up lunch dates in advance just to make time for them. 

He let the joke settle in for a moment. Then his smile made the subtle shift from jesting to welcoming, and his tone did the same. 

“It’s been quite some time since the two of us last sat down and just talked. Usually there’s some pressing matter to get to that leaves us without time for pleasantries.” 

And, Miles thought, this was the first time Phoenix had truly visited his new office. He’d stopped by once or twice in brief but never long enough to admire the place. 

Not that it looked different from the last... Miles had carefully replicated everything down to the detail. The only major difference was size. 

His teacup was pinched gracefully between three fingers, held over his lap as he leaned back, relaxed, in his chair. Miles brought it to his lips. Then used a small napkin to wipe the steam from his glasses. 

With Blackquill recently freed, relief was a very palpable sensation throughout. The Dark Age of Law had come to its close. Despite this relief, however, Miles had not lost his sense of responsibility. 

Justice was not one action that resonated forever - it was an ongoing act, something that must be watched and regulated. 

Aside from merely continuing his work as the chief prosecutor, Athena’s historical courtroom win brought Miles the confidence with which to pick up new challenges. 

Miles had found himself on a courage high and did not want to waste it.
