Turgut married Aslihan and while they're theoretically a power couple because Aslihan rocks, they just do not have the same chemistry and history to me as Turgut and Aykiz did. Like this is clearly still a political marriage and I'm not even sure if Aslihan knows about Aykiz or about anything that happened to Turgut???
She can't match his history. Dude was brainwashed, tortured, drugged, went through cold turkey, lost his wife in the worst, most cruel Mongol attack we've seen to date, lost his surrogate father, lost one of his best friends, and Aslihan was barely there for the last of it. She doesn't know about Deli Demir. She doesn't know about his life before hell. She's super cool, yeah, but Aykiz was BADASS. Aslihan has a strong mind but is vulnerable to a degree, Aykiz had ANGER and she went after her enemies by herself while still being super kind as a person.
I miss Aykiz. She could have been more than a tragic arc. Although it was clear from her severe injuries that she wouldn't live, I wanted her to make it and be a scarred, disabled woman of the tribe, yet still be the same Aykiz, the same beauty, the same head of reason she always was to Turgut.
Come to think of it, there are very few disabled characters in this show despite the fact that people sustain life-threatening wounds in almost every battle. There should be a lot less fingers and toes and way more scarring, especially on Ertugrul himself, whose pierced hand, which left him unable to wield a sword for quite a while, left no scar in the following seasons. It doesn't impact him anymore when it very much should. I've also heard that blacksmiths tend to have lots of tiny scarred dots on their faces and forearms from burning embers. Neither Deli Demir nor Turgut had them.
Eh, I guess there's still hope for Turgut and Aslihan. Let's get poisoned on our wedding night together, that should create an unbreakable relationship bond, right?? Lmao.
EDIT: And come to think of it further, Turgut also doesn't match Aslihan very well because he's not a Çavdar. She has her own problems, and Turgut agreed to step into those problems, but this is not his tribe. Turgut LOVES his tribe. Why make him save another tribe for the woman who is handling things quite well. Ehhh, Ertugrul, I don't agree with these politics here haha. Seems a bit artificial. Which is probably ok because, again, politicial marriage. They know.
