When tunkuluchĂș sing .. Mayan Folk Story
n Mayab mysterious bird lives, who is always single and lives among the ruins. It is the owl or tunkuluchĂș, who shakes the Maya with her singing, because everyone knows that heralds death.
Some say that makes for evil, others because tunkuluchĂș enjoys walk by the cemetery on dark nights, hence the taste for death, and there are some who think that many years ago, a witch maya, to die, became the owl.
There is also a legend that speaks of a distant era, when the tunkuluchĂș was considered the wisest of the bird kingdom. Therefore, the birds were going to look if they needed advice and all admired his conduct serious and prudent.
One day, the tunkuluchĂș received a letter in which he was invited to a party that would take place in the palace of the kingdom of birds.Although he did not like the celebrations, this time decided to attend because he could not refuse a royal invitation. So, he came to the party dressed in his best suit, the guests were amazed to see him much, it was the first time the tunkuluchĂș went to a meeting like this.
He immediately gave the most important place in the table and offered the most delicious dishes, accompanied by balchĂ©, liquor maya. But tunkuluchĂș balchĂ© was not used to and just drank a few drinks, got drunk. The same happened to the other guests, who turned the party whistles and laughter pure outrageous.
Among the most humorous was the chom, who adorned his bald head with flowers and laughed every time someone bumped. Instead, the chachalaca, it was always noisy, remained silent. Each bird wanted to be the most grace, and inadvertently tunkuluchĂș beat the other. I was so drunk, that he gave him tell jokes while dancing and spinning on one leg, no matter falling all the time.
That was when he passed around a Maya known for being really annoying. Hearing the commotion that made the birds got to the party willing to disturb the present. And of course I had the opportunity to do so, especially after he also got drunk with balché.
The Maya began to laugh at each bird, but soon attracted his attention tunkuluchĂș. Without much thought, ran after him to pull his feathers, while the sick bird ran and slipped all the time. Then the man pulled a thorn from a branch and reached the tunkuluchĂș, when found, was bitten legs. Although the bird up again and again, all I did was that they thought the birds had taken to dancing and laughing at him as could be.Â
Maya was not until I fell asleep by the drunkenness that stopped bothering him. The party was over and the birds returned to their nests still dizzy, some will remember the tremendous laughter as did tunkuluchĂș ridiculous. The poor bird was anger and shame at the same time, because no one would respect him after that day.
So he decided to avenge the cruelty of the Maya. He was searching for days in the worst punishment was both his anger, he thought that all men should pay for the insult he had suffered. So, he searched himself some quality that allowed retaliate and chose to use his nose. Then it was every night to the cemetery, until he learned to recognize the smell of death that was what he needed for his revenge.
Since then, the proposed tunkuluchĂș announce the Maya as it approaches its final hour. Thus, stands near where someone will die soon smell and sing many times. So tunkuluchĂș say that when he sings, the man dies. He could not choose better revenge, for her song shakes with fear of the listener.
