HELLO. GOD SO IGNORE THAT IT HAS BEEN 5 MONTHS LMAO.

usually my playlist request fills take way less time bc i have a huge music library but. well. i am very Specific when it comes to Billford.

most of what i could conceive of for this playlist (as i mentioned in a vaguepost about it some months back) was, and i quote,

“ 'teenage girl in self-destructive stomach-hurting love with inadvisable authority figures.' ” me projecting my teen years, and adult men’s consumption of them, onto an adult man seems like some kind of praxis but idk how lol."

not a mood i tap into as frequently anymore, which i want to say says good things abt how far i've come in life! but it did take me awhile of ruminating, relistening to old faves, and plowing along thru my usual discovery mechanisms until i had something i was happy with.

Holy Grail by BEL - saved 4/12, counting "I Want," which was already a fave of mine. a fair bit more poppy than i tend to go, but "Holy Grail" is a new favorite track; a much-needed pick-me-up for a tedious workday.

Hannah by Lomelda, 4/14 - "Polyurethane" is a song i never skip already; "Kisses" is sure to be the same. despite the low save rate, i hearted a lot of the songs on this album and would happily listen to it through again on its own, just not scattered about on a playlist.

The Valley by Rachael Jenkins, 5/11 - today's winner in terms of ratio. "untitled" (a single by the same artist) was a fave of mine last year. i particularly liked "The Valley," "Bridges," and "The Comedown."

I'm gonna die with this frown on my face by Ruby Gill, 5/12 - "All the birds under the westgate" is one i sing to myself often. the rest of the album is similarly delightful, lullaby-like in that confessional style i enjoy. my workday was winding down at this point so i had more bandwidth to enjoy the journey; "Dirty work" and "Champion Ruby" are standout winners.

It's just really vibey to me and it's so fun to come up with dramatic shit to it. Plus with the lyrics being dissonant and Icelandic (And also I guess some are legitimately in a gibberish fake language which like??? neat.) So writing/reading to it doesn't feel impossible.

thank you for the rec!!! i listened to this album through about the first 1/3 of my writing binge last night; it was very easy to focus to, which paradoxically rarely lends itself to being saved on my personal playlists, but i did save "Heysatan."

Sigur Ros has come across my discovery path once in awhile but nothing ever really stuck; i think the particular vocal style is hit-or-miss for me, but i do enjoy it once in awhile. overall this was definitely the album i needed to kickstart a focus mode last night, so thanks again for the rec!

trying to go rec for rec on this one is more difficult as i don't routinely listen to much like it, but i'll try anyway:

Complete Mountain Almanac, by an artist supergroup of the same name, incl. Aaron Dessner whom you know we love around here: while not at all Icelandic it shares some of the more dreamy qualities on some tracks that make it easy to focus to.

Magnolia Electric Co. and Didn't It Rain, by Songs: Ohia - absolute legends of slowcore. Molina's voice lends itself to a yearningly meditative soundtrack that i find very hyperfocus-friendly. i am attending a memorial show for Molina's later project later this year; very excited and certain i will cry.

or if it's the non-English words that really do it for you, HÅN and CASX are my two standouts atm, but both have a more heavy/frantic/electronic vibe (depending) that is quite different from Sigur Ros's sound.
