Fun fact, if y’all have been on instagram in the past like week, you might be one of the over 2 million people to see the school I used to go to. The small town band with seven tubas, and then I moved to another school where for eighth grade I was the only tuba player. Same school division, different amount of tubas

when you try to do a D flat and end up doing a G flat and your director just yells like “LOWER, LOWER LOWER, YESSS!” Or when you do an A flat instead of an A natural and he yells “MIDDLE FINGER, EXCELLENT!” or when you manage to release upwards and he gets all happy, and excited, or when he says the band has to serve you and give you and the bari sax space, but they never do, or when he is patient, but very energetic at the same time when you’re trying to do a section on your own so you don’t get too anxious, or when your random noises make him make random noises. In summary, he is my favourite teacher.

when you switch to a four valve from a three valve and then you pick up a three valve again and realize you got bigger and stronger in just three months.
I may have flung spit at two trumpets today.
I wasn’t having the best of days to start with, I didn’t sleep well, I had bad cramps and the other tuba player wasn’t there so I had to be two tubas in one. I was emptying my slides, as one would, the trumpet next to me was annoying me and so my arm flicked that way with one of the slides in my hand. I aimed for one, hit two.
I don’t think they learned the lesson of not annoying a tuba player emptying their slides
They were complaining, and got told off by the band director for being loud while he was working with the flutes
