Jnewne2: #3 End
And that was Tiger Tiger. I should probably read entire poem to figure out just what the connection is with the comic.
Overall, I like this comic. I can’t say Ludo’s full name even in my own mind, so Ludo it is! She is SUPER insane into Sea Sponges, but in that science curiosity that plagued all naturalists and researchers back then. It’s is actually really cute and endearing to see her just go on about sea sponges, and appreciate Jamis’s gifts in her own way.
Which by the way Jamis is such a jock. He isn’t himbo energy yet, but definitely qualifies as jock energy. Like earnest jock energy. He just tries his best with being with her, but he is such an athlete. And her brother Remy is energetic, fun, and will not put up with her shit. Sibling energy is so strong it’s great.
I love how in hindsight it was great to have the cold open be a bunch of rich people having a party “for” the artist, when really they didn’t care about the art themselves. They just wanted to party, and was using the “being a patron for the arts” as an excuse for it. Not like they couldn’t commission pieces, but to have it while it was being created. They didn’t appreciate the artists work. Then Ludo comes in being “I gotta go do science about sponges”. SHE is the person that would care for the work because that is what she wants to do.
She will probably be killed once word gets out she isn’t a captain, but at least she can enjoy sea sponges until then.
The art in the comic is also gorgeous. I don’t know how hard it is to draw and shade in pencil like that, but it is well enough to go with both a serious and comedic style for the tone.
Fantastic, good read, I hope she gets her sponges. I still don’t know if this is 100% historical fiction or not but I hope it works out for her.
