One of the tricky aspects of this scene was that we wanted to create a sense that a lot of violence was happening without actually showing anything. No one was actually ever really severely hurt, bruised - there's no blood. And so, for the first time in the three films I've made, we decided to shoot in slow motion to create this sort of otherworldly feeling that what's happening is actually worse than it really was, which is a lot of what happened during this experiment - it was really in their heads. - Director Kyle Patrick Alvarez, Anatomy of a Scene: The Stanford Prison Experiment
