“Woah!” Felicity giggled. “Hi there! I'm Felicity!” She held out her hand. The robot looked like Andy, but if he was less shiny.
“Ah,” he said. His voice would drop off at the end of his sentences. “My name is Wadsworth, madame. I am your robobutler, I suppose…”
“What can you do, Wadsworth?” she asked. “Are your motor functions working? Andy's were a little wonky, he couldn't handle precision work very well…”
Wadsworth shook her hand hesitantly. She was sure he'd be grimacing if he had a face capable of doing so. “I am in perfectly fine condition, thank you very much. As for what I am capable of doing, I can tell jokes, explain things, and provide you with clean water.”
“Water?” Felicity suddenly realized how dry her throat felt.
A panel in the Mister Handy’s sphere-shaped body opened up to reveal a bottle of clear water. Felicity took it and drank almost half of it in the first couple of seconds.
“Oh man! Thanks, Wadsworth!”
“Of course, madame,” he said. He promptly turned and floated back up the stairs.
When he left, later that evening, Lucien was pleasantly surprised to find Shadowmere waiting for him. She stood virtually stone still by the pool just outside the Black Door. Her eyes seemed to glow in the semi-darkness.
“I'm ready to go home, girl,” he murmured, carefully feeding her apple slices.
He hopped onto her back and started directing her towards the Pale Pass, to get back to Cyrodiil. It was almost as if she knew where to go. Maybe she did.
Another week later, Lucien lifted the cover of the well next to the only abandoned house in Cheydinhal. He paused to unlock the grate below the cover. He ran his tongue along his teeth, finding great discomfort in the fact that two of them were loose. He pushed past that, and pulled the grate up, before slipping into the Sanctuary.
