Sometimes people cross your path and walk into your life and you could never predict how deep a connection you will forge in coming years. Such was the case when I first met Veronique, owner of @studioverodesign back in 2016. Earlier this month, Veronique announced her studio is closing as she is retiring at the end of March and moving back to Europe after having lived in the states for 40+ years. Spain is calling and that is where she and her husband will be moving. I have written many times, including in the introduction of April's chapter in #tsll3rdbook , how much Veronique's friendship as well as talented decor expertise means to me and has played a roll in both cultivating my sanctuary Le Papillon and enjoying my time in Bend, so I won't go on here, only to say, she will be missed terribly. As the new year begins, I wanted to begin with a cozy vignette captured by a beloved and long-time reader of TSLL, Isabel from Germany, whose recent image shared with me (and shared with permission) captures so many joys of living simply luxuriously. On this day, Bastille Day/Le Quatorze Juillet of all days, seven years ago, I along with my boys - Oscar and Norman - arrived in Bend, Oregon, to begin our lives in a town that brought me to Le Papillon, my home seen for the first time three years ago, almost to this date as well, within a couple of days. A home that signifies in so many ways true contentment because of who I was when I arrived, how the journey to this place shaped me and helped me grow. The porch swing captured here is whimsically recreated by @sarahloeckerart on the cover of #tsll3rdbook The Road to Le Papillon, a book that shares details of this life journey that brought me most fortunately to where and how I discovered true contentment. It would not have been without the struggles, pains, losses and obstacles, but as well, not without the many moments of quiet and personal celebration.
