Lets start with the basic fucking fact the chivalry has to to with the medieval institution of knighthood.

I'm not saying that you necessarily have to be a medieval knight to be chivalrous. Here is what Websters says about chivalry.

Gallantry, courtesy and honor.

The noble qualities a knight was supposed to have, such as courage and a readiness to help the weak.

The demonstration of any of these qualities.

Basically to be chivalrous you need to heroically brave, or help the weak. (Old people, children and women.) 

There are 10 commandments to the code of chivalry. 

Thou shalt believe all that the Church teaches, and shalt observe all its directions.

Thou shalt defend the Church.

Thou shalt respect all weaknesses, and shalt constitute thyself the defender of them.

Thou shalt love the country in the which thou wast born.

Thou shalt not recoil before the enemy.

Thou shalt make war against the Infidel without cessation, and without mercy.

Thou shalt perform scrupulously thy feudal duties, if they be not contrary to the laws of God.

Thou shalt never lie, and shalt remain faithful to thy pledged word.

Thou shalt be generous, and give largesse to everyone.

Thou shalt be everywhere and always the champion of the Right and the Good against Injustice and Evil.

These are the things that a person needed to display to be chivalrous, which was needed to be a knight. So, you need to believe in God, and defend those beliefs. Defending the weak. I think this is the one that people talk about when they chivalry is dead. A big part of defending the weak was helping damsels in distress. So in other words, to want a guy to be chivalrous, you are in a way saying that women are weak.  

Loving the country you were born in; that one is simple enough. not recoiling before the enemy doesn't really apply to daily life, because this is talking about combat, battles, that kind of stuff. Making war against the infidel; again, doesn't really apply here. You have to follow the law of the land, unless they contradict the law of God 

The next point about not lying could does apply to the modern day use of chivalry. The commandment after that states that you should give to people, help them. Give them money, and gifts. Always defend good, and fight against evil. this is very subjective, and truly has nothing to do with how people use 'chivalry' today. 

Basically, chivalry is kind of dead. If you find someone who follows all of these ten commandments, awesome. But if you use the word chivalry to make guys feel like jackasses, then remember that you are calling women weak.
