Part 1 Part 2
Trent, Ray, Metal and Clay are all sat in a scooby van, cruising away from a quiet in-out op in backcountry Middle East. None of them are quite sure where they are β they stopped caring about the exact location about 20 minutes ago, when they'd exfilled. Jace, Sonny and Brock are sat in the other car. Brock's sat in the wheel of that one, and based on the plume of dust that had shot off the ground then the trio's car had peeled out of the base, Brock wasn't being kind to the gas pedal.
Trent was much more sedate, instead focusing his energy on arguing across the car to Metal, who's sat in the back, feet kicked up on the seat in front of him. Ray's sat in the passenger, eyes fixed on the road but grin giving him away as listening to the argument. Clay's feet are resting atop Metal's knees, leant back to a nearly horizontal position.
"No no no, you don't get to tell me about Mrs Gertrude, I'm the one that lives next to her, and besides-"
"Mrs Gertrude is a lovely lady and I'm not even certain that you know the code to get into your house, how would you even know about-"
"Scott so help me god, you better not be about to get all high and mighty with me about knowing codes-"
A sudden flash of light and heat and pain.
The first thing Trent becomes aware of is the lack of light, then pain searing a line across his back. He rolls onto his side and suddenly light fills his vision.
Wait. It's night time. How is there light?
His eyes focus more, and he makes out the shape of the van they were just in, on its side, flames coming out of the side that's been ripped open by... something. A shadow crosses his vision and he sees Ray's soot-stained face looming in front of him, hand fisting in his jacket to pull him up. Trent scrambles to his feet as Ray starts talking, yelling above the ringing in both their ears.
"Clay and Metal are still inside! You grab Metal!"
Trent nods, and together they run towards the overturned van. Ray makes it first, Trent slowed by pain searing across his back. The handle, previously plastic, is now a molten mass on the back of the van. Ray grabs it first, gloves pushing into the still-hot plastic. Smoke billows out of the hole in the side of the car and Trent thinks 'oh, it might have been a bomb' before he joins Ray in pulling apart the doors.
They both jump back when a hand bangs on the glass, smearing the soot painting the inside of the window. It slams against the window again, and Trent can tell words are being yelled, but they're distorted by the roaring flames bursting out of the side of the van's open side and the ringing in Trent's ears. Ray's hearing must be slightly better since he yells back.
"We're coming! We're getting the door open now!" A moment of silence, then an answering sound. Ray's back onto pulling the remnants of the handle before the noise even stops. Trent starts again with renewed vigour because one of his brothers is alive in there.
The door suddenly CLUNKs, and both of them have to jump back as gravity forces the door to the floor. They both surge forwards, pulling their respective person out. Clay scrambles out, practically leaping into Ray's arms when he reaches out to help pull Clay out of the van. Trent latches onto Scott's jacket much as Ray had grabbed him, pulling with all his might, managing to get Scott's legs out from under the metal they were pinned by. Scott lands on the floor with a sound of pain but Trent pulls him further and further away, only stopping when the pair are around 20 feet from the van; level with where Ray is checking Clay.
Scott coughs for a few moments before talking. "You know, that was a bit like last Tuesday when you-"
Trent grabs both sides of his face, looking down at the soot-stained face of his best friend. "Scott, if you're about to say 'when you pulled me out of that police car', I'm putting you back in that fucking van."
