.แดmperor Nicholas II of Russia abdicated the Russian throne #onthisday 15 March 1917 during the February revolution. The manifesto was signed by the Emperor renouncing the throne of the Russian Empire on behalf of himself and his son, Tsarevich Alexei Nikolaevich, in favor of his little brother Grand Duke Michael Alexandrovich. Though the Grand Duke refused to accept the imperial authority the next day stating that he would accept it only if that was the consensus of democratic action by the Russian Constituent Assembly, which shall define the form of government for Russia which means the end of the Romanov dynasty which ruled Russia for 300 years. With this abdication Tsar Nicholas II was the last romanov to ever rule the Russian Empire, he succeeded the throne following the death of his father Tsar Alexander III in 1894 and unfortunately he led Russia to two big wars one with Japan in 1905 which caused alot of heavy losses in many ways for Russia and the second was the First World War in 1914 and also costed the Empire alot of failures which force Russia to retreat in 1917 due to the large number of deaths in the Russian army which made the army garrison at Petrograd to join striking workers in demanding socialist reforms in March 1917 which forced Tsar Nicholas to abdicate. The Imperial family were first held at the Czarskoye Selo palace, then in the Yekaterinburg palace near Tobolsk.
