Today's Quotation: Kindness is more important than wisdom, and the recognition of this is the beginning of wisdom. Theodore Isaac Rubin Today's Meditation: Wisdom adds so much meaning, purpose, and depth to our lives that we all have an innate desire to seek it. But when we attempt to learn and to grow in wisdom, without making a strong effort to be kind, perhaps we are sabotaging even our best efforts to make our lives richer and fuller. After all, wisdom is meant to be lived and to be shared... something that is very difficult to do when we walk without kindness in our hearts. So many of the blessings in our lives are not only attributed to our kindness, but also begin with it. Compassion, love, empathy, courtesy, peace, hope, friendship, and wisdom--kindness boosts our spirits and offers us a positive way to look for the best in others as we figure out what acts of kindness might be most helpful and appropriate. And by practicing kindness in our lives, we gain the ability to keep our minds and hearts focused on the well-being of others and not on what we will receive in return for said kindness. If we wish to be wise, we must first be kind. It is the gateway towards making our lives better--the path towards true wisdom. But we must begin the journey by embracing true kindness--one that is born out of a selfless love for others. And this kindness is cheap--it costs us nothing and gives us and those around us so very much. In fact, its potential benefits far outweigh much of the other mindless stuff that we give our time and energy to. Today's Challenge: Offer kindness to all those you interact with. Questions to consider: How often do you consider being kind? What opportunities for showing and sharing kindness were available to you yesterday? How many of those did you follow through with? In what ways might your kindness contribute towards the world? For further thought: All the kindness which a person puts out into the world works on the heart and thoughts of humankind.
