The figure I've been working for the last few days, the old man from chapter 4 of Deltarune! 🐢🔨
I finished chapter 5 before the update, so I managed to defeat the Shadow Crystal holder's bomb attack before the patch. I find chapter 4's secret boss to be harder! I lost many times compared with the Knight, whom I managed to get used to its attacks.
The biggest struggle with the Old Man figure were the colors, I had to combine many to get the different shades of brown.
Materials used: Air Dry Clay, Air Dry paint, Acrylic paint, wood and wires.

So...we are not touching the topic of Ken anymore, right?
I just don't really keep tabs on him and don't really feel the need to report on every little thing he does unless it's something big like a new Lara-Su book. At a certain point I'm just repeating myself.
I thought about saying something about the recent minor controversy with him reprinting something Ian and Tracy made in his new collection of Archie Shadow stories and using photos of them in the book against their explicit wishes, but like. Penders being a dick to Ian and Tracy? Claiming ownership of more Archie material than he really should? But he's probably going to get away with it because a run of a couple hundred books is nothing to Sega, and nobody involved wants to spend their time and money battling him in court over shit from 20-30 years ago? Same old same old.
Likewise I thought about saying something about his other reprint collections and how they're editing the art rather than preserving the original works, but any press is good press for guys like him and I don't want to keep advertising his reprint books for him lol
How are you hanging out? Its your situation improving?
Some steps forward, some steps back. More some than others.
I dunno if I've ever explained to everybody the full story, but when I came back to Colorado, it was very joyous. I was back home. But then, uh, I guess I discovered I'd been holding a lot of feelings in about my mom's death and I completely fell apart in a way I wasn't entirely prepared for.
Which caused a lot of friction with my roommate, because it was hard for me to find the energy to look for a job. I got there, slowly, eventually, and that was the impetus behind me having a neurologist appointment last year and getting into therapy.
The neurologist told me a lot of things that made sense. I was diagnosed with Complex PTSD, general depressive disorder, and avoidant personality disorder. From my test results he said it was clear I was on the path to overcoming things, but that I needed a long time to work through things and I needed a low impact, even sub-part-time job where I wouldn't get too stressed. Because I am very, very emotionally burnt out. Not just from the death of my mom, but everything leading up to that, and probably also the last 25 years of my life. It's a long and depressing story, some of which I've told on this blog.
Unfortunately, the world isn't going to wait for me to get better. Double unfortunately, my symptoms are kind of bad enough that another reason I went to a neurologist was to see if they were bad enough to classify me with a disability. They were not. But that also doesn't mean things are suddenly just easy.
But gradually I was picking up momentum. Applying for jobs at a steady clip. Getting a few interviews here and there. Around Christmas, I got one that felt like a shoe-in. The manager was showing me around the workplace, telling me where everything goes, how things work, it felt like I was a lock. And then he hired someone else. It was very dejecting. And with the way the job market is going and the recession the way it is, prospects are drying up. Aid is drying up.
Therapy helps. Just having someone you can open up to and say whatever sad or toxic thought that pops into your head, and work through it instead of argue about it. I have a lot of self loathing and that's been a frequent topic of conversation. I think we had a major breakthrough regarding that just a couple days ago, though there's still a lot of work to be done.
But now I've got another timer hanging over me. I say "my roommate" a lot, but in truth I moved in with a cousin. We used to be best friends growing up but then we drifted apart (due to my breakdown) and that's created a really weird situation between us where she's sort of having to deal with me struggling with myself on top of dealing with the fallout from a very nasty divorce and the effect that's having on her son. She also told me a lot of things before I moved here and I would argue that some of them ended up not being true, or at least stretching the truth.
One of those things being that she sprung it on me less than six months after moving in that she wants to get out of this place. And I'm not ready to move again yet. Not financially, and definitely not emotionally. But it's not up to me. She anticipates that rent is going to go up enough next year that she will no longer be able to afford to live here. So she needs to get out of here, and wants to possibly find some place bigger.
She waffled back and forth on whether I could move with her and ultimately decided that with prices being what they are I probably can't move with them. I will have to find a place of my own. Which would be nice for a lot of reasons, but I also still feel very unprepared for. Again, both emotionally and financially. I have until March of next year to find a job and get stable, and I have my doubts about that. But I have nowhere else to go. I have to try to make it work out, or I accept homelessness.
Now, 10 months isn't nothing. It'll go fast, but I have... some... time. I'll have to fight with my own anxiety every step of the way while also fighting the worst job market since 2009.
I did talk to the manager of this apartment complex and I might be able to get a one bedroom for roughly the same amount I'm already paying my cousin to live here. But that also wouldn't be utilities, that wouldn't be internet access, and I'll need to be making a lot more than the $700-ish I get from donations in general. I was also told it's not a guarantee that place will become available and not to count on it. So it's a long shot anyway.
But again: the only other alternative is that my life is over.
That's not even touching on the fact I have major dental surgery incoming. It was supposed to happen yesterday, I've been doing lots of prescribed surgery prep, and then they didn't have me on the schedule. Thankfully somebody canceled and I'll be going in next Thursday. I'm getting a lot of teeth removed and a partial denture to replace them. They're gonna drill holes into my remaining good teeth and implant the plate, it sounds like. There's a lot of foods I can't eat anymore because of my bad teeth, so it'll be nice to have good teeth again. It's just very scary.
What are your thoughts on Dr Starline as a character?
He was a nice contrast to Dr. Eggman. Having Starline be this guy who was appalled at how reckless Eggman and cavalier was, only to basically commit the same mistakes in a different way was interesting. It was a fun commentary on, like, meeting your heroes, and how fans might misinterpret intentions.
By that I mean I feel like it's pretty common in fandom spaces to think "well I'd do that better" and then it turns out you don't.
Starline is, or was, just as blind as Eggman, just from a different perspective. And I like that. I like the friction he created in the world because of that. I like that he was trying to beat Eggman at his own game as a twisted way to prove his devotion. He was an enemy both to Sonic and technically to Eggman as well, something he passed on to Surge and Kit.
And, really, there was only one way that could have ended: with Starline facing reality and paying the price for that. But there's rumors he may be coming back soon, so I'm anticipating that.
I'm a bit late, but let's celebrate the announcement of the upcoming Kagurabachi anime! I was working on a remake of my old Hakuri Sazanami figure (gosh, the old one is ugly), and finished just a bit after the trailer came out.
I'll continue to improve. The new one is more anatomically correct, and the face isn't ugly. (Air-dry clay isn't like modeling clay...) I didn't bother making the mask for his eye this time.
"But this isn't a stab in the dark. Now, I got Hakuri."
I likewise changed the colors of his pants to reflect the current look. The white hair has a bit of blond too, but I don't think the photo quality shows it. Hakuri was blond before the sensei decided on giving him white hair ( To better contrast with Chihiro, I presume) but I can't help but remember Killua from Hunter x Hunter, another Shonen Jump kid from a famous clan.
Materials: Air-dry clay, wire, wood, a bit of aluminum, cold porcelain paint, acrylic paint, black fine-tip marker.

Im playing the original Spyro. I'm having fun with it, but as a kid I remember not liking it much compared with the sequels in the ps1. Do you have any Spyro opinions?
For the longest time I thought I played and finished the first Spyro game. To my memory I then moved on to Spyro 2 and found the game way too difficult.
In reality what seems to have happened is I made it like 80% of the way through Spyro 1 and hit a sharp spike in difficulty. Looking at the wiki, I made it all the way to either Lofty Castle or Haunted Towers, some of the last levels in the game. So it makes sense they'd be really hard.
I really enjoyed Spyro 1 until it started feeling a little unfair towards the end there. There's some really tricky jumps in that game that ask you to use Spyro's glide in ways I was not prepared for. It's interesting. I like that. Again, until the end.
I seem to recall that Spyro 2 was slapped together in a hurry. In something like 9 months, I think? I've heard they even had to re-issue the game as a version 1.1 in order to patch some nasty bug that was in the launch version. I guess I've never played it so I don't really have an opinion otherwise.
Spyro 3, though. I played a demo for Spyro 3 and I think that game is kind of bad? It sort of succumbs to Donkey Kong 64/Sonic Adventure syndrome where you have all of these alternate playable characters besides Spyro and none of them play as well as Spyro himself does. I specifically remember playing the demo level with the gun-toting chimpanzee and not having fun with how slow and floaty he was.
I think both Crash 3 and Spyro 3 suffer from what I would consider "increased kid-ification" where it feels like instead of making them better games they just filled them full of more stuff. Not good stuff, just more production value. But not really an expansion or improvement on the gameplay. Cuter characters, sillier dialog, and more distractions to hide the fact that the core gameplay hasn't changed much.
Like I come to Spyro to play as Spyro. Not a kangaroo, or a penguin, or a chimpanzee. And not on a skateboard, either.
Not yet! I fell off reading the Claremont run right after Scott left post-Dark Phoenix since that was a natural stopping point for that arc. But that's not X-Men's fault, I was enjoying it. I also fell off reading '00s Fantastic Four after the end of the Waid run even though I wanted to read through Hickman, and I stopped just a few issues into Unbeatable Squirrel Girl. I am also behind on half of my current subscriptions other than Sonic, Transformers, Absolute Batman, and Fantastic Four lol. Just haven't been reading comics as much lately for one reason or another.
I can't find it now, but I saw a headline somewhere the other day from someone who said they were fixing their social media addiction by replacing mindless scrolling with reading comics instead. Maybe I should take that to heart. Just grab my iPad and read an issue or two when I've got a few minutes to kill.
Wouldnt Surge swinming be dangerous? She has electric powers, she would fry everything in the water
She seems to have some degree of control over those powers, and can also still function without any electrical charge at all. There's also the simple fact she might not care about frying everything in the water! There's also range to consider... lots of variables here.
