Interview with the Albino Rat - Chapter I: Tea Planet (on Wattpad) https://my.w.tt/E5SyT3KuWM In this fanfiction you're a Food Review Historian who goes into Reviewbrah's reviewing chamber to interview him for your job. Eventually, you get a cameo in one of his special reviews.
Also, I’m pushing this because it’s good and my friend wrote it. Have a read.
ooooh thats really interesting!!! i never realized the chapters were both programming references and puns. are there others with double meanings you can explain?
sure! i guess the most obvious one is probably ch 5 "honeypot." honeypot in programming means to set up a fake website/server/whatever that looks identical to the real thing but is full of trackers and identification software, in order to catch anyone who accesses the site. the chapter is literally about removing the honeypot gideons set up on fsocietys infected server.
to do this, elliot recruits the help of tyrell to distract gideon away from his computer. elliot essentially achieves this by borderline seducing tyrell-- if you remember, elliot puts his hand over tyrells, and asks tyrell for help ~protecting~ him from gideon lmfao. the other, more common, definition of honeypot is "an enticing source of pleasure or reward." the term is usually used when talking about espionage, particularly to describe entrapment, bribery, or information stealing where the victim is lured in by the promise of some sort of romantic or sexual relationship.
hopefully you can see how the two both apply to the content of that chapter!
can you please explain the meaning of the new trotw chapter name??
ofc!
the first, literal meaning is just a rehash of something tyrell thinks at the end of the chapter. he compares the arcade to a church, and the computer elliots been using is like an altar, the central place where sacrifices are made. one meaning of the word terminal is computer-- its the central input/output point of computing.
the second, more metaphorical meaning is sort of a play on words. most of the chapter titles have two meanings, like this one.
terminal can also mean "final" or "to end." think of terminal illness, for example, or being terminated (fired) from work. terminal can also mean the end point of something, like the final terminal on a train route. and altar is pronounced like "alter." so saying elliot is the "terminal alter" implies he has control over the exits. get it? it relates to a continuing theme in the show-- elliots (im talking about mastermind here btw) obsession with control. the first scene of the show is elliot telling "ron" he was able to find his porn site via controlling the exit nodes and tracking his traffic:
and the show ends with elliot giving up control to the real elliot, no longer locking him in a neverending loop, and unblocking the exit, allowing him to leave and re-enter the real world.
anyways, all of that to say that the title is basically kind of a pun, referencing both tyrells view of elliot as a god, and elliots need to be in control.
