Hello! I'm very new to this area of the internet and I'm trying to learn all I can. I wanted to ask what is your definition of the term transautistic? Do you identify with this term and if so, what was the journey like realizing that term described you? Do you think people can transition to this and if so, how? Thanks!
Hi, welcome to the transID side of the internet!
So I'd probably consider the definition of transautistic to be something like... an individual who considers themselves to be autistic which is, on some level, incongruent to a [lack of] diagnosis (whether professionally, self, or some other way diagnosed) of autism. One could also consider themselves transautistic if, despite a diagnosis of autism, they consider themselves to be some other type of autistic.
Personally, although I perhaps could, I don't call myself transautistic as I am cisautistic. Though perhaps I could consider myself trisautistic - trisID is for when someone considers themselves to be both trans- and cis- [identity].
I tend to lean more towards the term Xenautistic. It's similar to Xenogender (just take off the o); the definition is "where your (trans)autistic identity can be described using non-human/non-normative terms and is connected to/influenced by aesthetics, animals, objects, colors, etc"
Honestly, unlike other transidentities I hold, this term doesn't have much of a story to it. I just really resonate with the feeling that my autism is connected to non-normative descriptors. As soon as I saw the term get coined, I immediately donned it.
Yes, I do think transautistics can transition! However, I have no idea how one would go about transitioning one's neurotype. Unfortunately I'm not the one to ask that particular question as it's not something I have to grapple with. But even if I don't know or understand the details, I'm pretty sure I've seen a couple transitioning transautistics on here!
Thanks for stopping by!
