Could you please name a few of the cruellest torture methods you have seen in your long life and tell us a bit about your thoughts when you saw those the first time?
Of all the torture methods invented by your kind, the cruelest are often those that affect the mind rather than the body. Through experience I have discovered that when the human body is subjected to sufficient amounts of pain or other physical suffering the mind retreats within itself, which is highly unhelpful when one is trying to extract information from the individual concerned. Psychological torture, on the other hand, is much more effective when one is trying to gain information, though it may leave the subject permanently broken. Among those psychological methods, prolonged isolation is guaranteed to break even the strongest of minds eventually. Another particularly effective method is sleep deprivation. Most of these methods are as old as humanity, or possibly even older, and are often overlooked because they are not extravagant or grotesque, but I assure you that they are often more interesting to the observer than some momentary outlandish punishment. If by chance your question was aimed at such grotesque methods of physical torture, the Ancient Greeks invented a device named ‘the Brazen Bull’, a bull-shaped metal stature in which they would slowly burn victims to death. The sound of their screams was transformed to a sound akin to an angry bull for the entertainment of onlookers. While it may not be the cruelest torture method I know, it is a good example of the uniquely twisted nature of certain human minds.
