im either very stupid in the past or i thought tribble was a different person i know but i thought it was about lesbians being able to still use he/him pronouns bc it's, pronouns. then again, i was already phasing out of MP bc the story was just going in a very random direction i wasnt expecting so i only heard glimpses of the drama.
yikes
Nah, you're not stupid, anon. I completely get the confusion on what exactly transpired, especially since the tweets were lost to time for a while. That particular incident presumably happened very quickly before Tribble "apologised" and went into DFE mode. I personally never saw any of this play out and I followed her on Twitter for a while.
When I saw this spoken about out of context, I wanted to believe she meant that lesbians are still valid even if they've dated men previously (which is what she falsely stated she meant while going over the event in her Discord). Or that she was referencing lesbians dating multigender individuals and it was poor wording like she claimed. The evidence itself shows Tribble was explicitly talking about trans men at various points so there's really no room for any good faith interpretation. Especially when Tribble is cis herself and did not appear to want to listen to trans individuals trying to educate her. She instead chose to double down and twist the narrative until she was forced to do damage control. - RJ
I'm very sorry that this isn't related to the comic and if you've spoken about this before but I've seen people here and there accuse tribbleofdoom of being transphobic (amongst other things)? Particularly on your MP video. Is there any evidence of this because most sources I've looked into just talk about what she did and what little proof they provide isn't very accessible.
Disclaimer: we have talked about this before but I'm honestly sick of people not knowing the full story while either:
1) reducing our issues with Tribble and MP down to stupid online ideology wars (because no, we don't care that she used ableism or homophobia or w/e as a source of conflict in her show... we care that she did it badly)
or 2) being weird little gatekeepers and trying to insist there is something morally questionable about us reclaiming a concept from a bigot. So, yes, let's go over all this again, shall we? - We'll cover the most major point first, which is the transphobia. To start with, Tribble came out on Twitter and stated that lesbians should be able to still call themselves lesbians while dating trans men. She also doubled down on this when somebody called it the transphobic take that it was.
She would then go on to mistreat a trans member of her cast, misgendering them and also attempting to damage their credibility by falsely claiming they were fired due to homophobia/transphobia. When, in actual fact, they were dismissed from their position due to finger pointing with no evidence outside of "you're friends with somebody who I think contacted the show's funders over me trying to get free work out of my fans".
Which is very unprofessional as an employer. And maybe don't try and beg for free work in the first place when you're supposed to be in a contractual agreement with funders?
Furthermore, there's the whole portrayal of the character Moonstrike in MP itself. To bring y'all up to speed, Moonstrike is a trans woman who is shown to be heartless and aggressive to our main characters while also advocating the murder of a child. This is often a harmful stereotype that transphobes use to target trans women and it's certainly... wild to see this kind of depiction in an "LGBT+ friendly series" in the year 2021. ("Oh, but she was only aggressive towards Fire because he killed her mate!" Nope, she was ruthless towards Nothing and Feather too for no real reason, demanding Fire explain why he "allowed these Prideless into our home" and referring to Feather as an 'it' at one point) There are also other controversies that Tribble has been involved in, namely using Black Lives Matter to promote MP and accusing another artist of being an abuser/mounting an harassment campaign against her based on a petty disagreement 10 years prior. She also accused Cat of demanding a script from her and accusing her of theft when no such thing happened. Cat simply approached her via Twitter DMs because such accusations of theft were being levelled at Tribble by others. Tribble surrendered the script of her own accord.
For whatever reason, Tribble decided to switch up the narrative six months later after she and Cat had a seemingly constructive dialogue in private. Presumably because she assumed word would not get back to her as she had locked down her Twitter since the aforementioned BLM incident.
One could say there was a bit of a theme when it came to Tribble taking something personally and making up allegations against those she felt had "wronged" her in some way.
To put it simply: Tribble was a bigot and an injustice collector. If she ever rolled back on any of these controversies (i.e. the transphobia, the BLM tweet), she only ever did so for damage control purposes.
She then chose to leave the internet and let her fans cry "cancel culture!" when no such cancelling actually occurred. MP was never cancelled due to Tribble citing mental health reasons. It is officially on "indefinite hiatus" and Tribble bringing up her mental health was in reference to her producing any more fully animated episodes of the show as opposed to exploring less complex methods such as animatics and written format. Tribble also maintained - and still does to this day - a healthy fanbase that is still willing to bat for her and paint any of her critics as hysterical naysayers and/or vindictive bullies. She also faced no loss of income, while also happy to potentially impact the reputations and livelihoods of those she felt a petty dislike towards vs. handling such personal issues like an adult. And the main reason we ultimately decided to make the My Pride analysis is because Tribble was receiving the "separate the art from the artist" treatment and any criticism regarding her was being swept under the rug by her fans. Or was dismissed with "don't like, don't watch" or some other variation of that privileged take.
Which is a tale as old as time when it comes to bigots and their work if enough people vibe with said content over having any real moral standards, unfortunately. - RJ
