It had been a couple of chaotic weeks for Eva. She had a new case and had to fly to San Diego and then when she returned home, she was asked to give a seminar about the pyschology of serial killers with a strong emphasis on women as their victims. It was basically her speciality, her whole thesis had been about that. With the yeas, she came to perfect it and now was used as part of the mandatory bibliography for the new profilers.
So here she was, the classroom was full of students. Eva had a large white board behind her and a blue marker in her hand. The people were curious, which was always very welcoming because she believed that it was the best way to learn, the more they asked the better for them. She was now presenting one of her oldest cases, a man who only killed blue eyed brunettes with curly hair and freckles, a very specific type.
“So what? It’s some sort of fetish?” One of the students asked curiously and Eva nodded as she paced around her desk.
“Precisely, Mr. Hendricks, precisely” Eva nodded approvingly. “Are you familiar with the...” her voice trailed as she saw the door at the back opening and a more than familiar man walk in. She was surprised and only then she realized that she had totally forgotten to call him. Well, there was no use on thinking about that now, was it? “... with the Oedipus Complex?” She finished her sentence and focused her attention back on her student. When the young man nodded Eva did the same. “Good” she said and then look back at the rest of the classroom.Â
“Let’s take a look at the killer’s mother” she said and moved on to the next slide that the projector displayed. Eva felt comfortable in the classroom, just as she did in a crime scene, this was her thing, this was her true passion, that’s why she was successful, why her classes were the most popular. “Now can anyone tell me what you see?” She asked and several hands rose. “Yes, Miss Marquez” she allowed and the girl began talking.Â
Eventually the class came to an end and Eva greeted her students, reminding them what they had to read for the next lesson. She then returned to her desk and turned off the projector before moving to put away her things. She had a lot of papers and her computer.Â
“I am surprised to see you here, Mr. Kidwell” she hummed as she heard some footsteps approaching to her but her eyes were still fixed on her papers. All of her students were gone now and it was just the two of them.
