Yeah, canon Trent is kinda depressing in quite a few ways, mainly his backstory, the way he's treated on the show directly, and the underlying direction of his character.

So, let's talk about something that can be seen as optimistic for his future, that in true Trent fashion nobody ever really mentions.

Hey, has anyone else noticed that up until the Aftermath, he never really is shown with or uses his guitar in TDA? i.e. when he's more emotionally unstable?

Whilst he's clearly not in the greatest state of mind in the Aftermaths, he's in a noticably better state of mind. Also interestingly, he's actually using his guitar to express himself and his feelings, having two seperate songs spilling his emotions. Art therapy is still therapy.

And he continues to play instruments throughout the snippits we see of him in World Tour! A noticable portion of his background appearances are playing some instrument.

And through implication, you can theorise that it is having a positive effect. Trent spent a noticable amount of TDA fearing that Gwen and Duncan would get together, with everyone else telling him he was silly for doing so. And yeah, Gwen and Duncan do get together in World Tour, justifying all of Trent's fears.

The moral debate about this is irrelevant right now, my point is that in the world of Total Drama that is MORE than enough justification for him to go after them, Blaineley even sits him next to Gwen in the 3rd TDWT Aftermath intending to stir up drama,

yet despite this, he stays amicable. His relationship with Gwen after the fact is never really expanded upon, but if you look through WT ep24 (Aftermath IV), and the finale, they're frequently seen standing next to each other in backgrounds (a really funny small detail but I digress). Also thinking about how its a reality show, if there isn't shown to be any drama between them, then there probably just isn't any drama between them. Emotionally mature Trent, anyone?

So yeah, Trent takes a lot of shit during the show, but if we're going to look at all the little depressing tidbits, I think it's worth pointing out little tidbits that can be seen to imply him growing, starting to figure out his stuff, and maturing too.

i’m not forcing you to like him, but if you’re calling him a ‘weirdo’ because of his episode in action, you’re ableist. you realise these actions of his are beyond his control, right? i mean, fresh could’ve handled it better, but that doesn’t change the fact you are saying a character is annoying because of mental health issues.

there are real people who can behave like this. when i was younger (and still sometimes nowadays), i used to point out everytime i saw the number eight out in the wild, and it wasn’t even because of a traumatic experience or ocd like trent, it was just because of my birthday. but his thing with the number nine isn’t his entire personality, it’s just a part of him, just like that was for me.

fresh tv could’ve handled his disorder better, you should critique the way he’s portrayed and not what he did.

ik i could word my thoughts better but it’s a bit of a struggle, i hope you understand.

this is just a topic i have strong feelings about.
