Alright. I really want to draw treecats for people, and I want to see you guys enjoy having them in your RPs as much as I have had fun with them in my RPs off of Tumblr. But I just want to make sure you understand what treecats are, even before I make a huge long post about the lore concerning them! their societal structures, etc.
Yes, they are cute and fluffy.
They are also hunters.
They are killing machines wrapped up in soft, thick fur.
They are intelligent. Highly intelligent.
So they aren't "mere pets". You can't pick them up at a pet store, or a shelter. They have their own society (which is for a different post), can use tools. They have thoughts and feelings, and though they can't speak or communicate via telepathic words, they can make very definitive sounds and communicate via emotions, pictures, telepathic sounds. They have standards for who they will bond to.
Bond to.
It's an emotional and mental connexion. Treecats are wonderful for keeping a person more emotionally stable than others, mentally stable, because it's a whole different mind and viewpoint to help sort out your thoughts and emotions. They think in the 'now' mostly, and learn from the past but don't dwell on it. They don't worry about the distant future, just up through the next day, or maybe the end of the week.
I mentioned they're intelligent? They score between dolphins and humans on a sentience scale, and dolphins are kinda high up there. So they will understand language, understand mistrust. They are empaths, so they can sense another's intentions, and form their own in response. And they are also highly protective.
Furthermore: treecats don't live just 13-20 years like Earth cats. They live upwards of two hundred or three hundred years. In the Honor Harrington series that I'm getting them from (by David Weber), Honor Harrington bonded with a 50-year-old treecat when she was 12, and he was still going strong when she was 40 years old.
So please understand that this is almost like having another muse. Just one who is generally silent, and connected to your main muse. You can leave them behind in a cabin or an apartment, sure. They won't like it though. Their place is with their person, even in battle, because they're approximately a metre/3 feet and 8-10 kg/up to 22 lbs of cunning hunter, with long, sharp teeth and long, sharp claws on six limbs. Very fast and agile limbs. This creature is a cat, weasel, and person mixed in one. They are sometimes childlike in their comprehension of situations (not understanding why you can't do what makes you happy), but they are loyal, fierce, and cunning. Some are lazy. Some are friendly. Some like being alone with their person. But they are not like Earth cats who are generally okay with being left alone for a while.
