Lots of folks don’t like being told their religion is just myths and fables. Not that myths and fables can’t be teaching tools or offer insight into life. Myths and fables are just stories, stories with a grain of factual truth. Some historical imbedded in them. But inerrant history, I will say no.
Im specifically talking about the Abrahamic religions, all 3 of them. Jewish, christian and muslim. Our culture is steeped in those stories being factual and about real events. Folks really don’t like being told they are not true. There are kernels of truth in them… BUT how many wars have been fought over those religions? Today how many wars are are ongoing between sects within those religions?
Folks find comfort in stories. I find comfort in Star Wars and Star Trek and Harry Potter stories. I know they aren’t real stories about factual events but there are principles of compassion, empathy, inclusion.
Thursday thoughts.
