Niall created the story of the Greywaren over three years before he died. He’s been outrunning his own lie for that long and then dumped all the resulting vitriol on Declan on top of running his black market rare goods. Did he dream his way into Ronan’s dreams to hear Cabeswater call him Greywaren? What a shit. He basically set up his “””favorite””” child to be hunted.
TDT Chapter 5: The two of them had lived together at Monmouth for nearly as long as Gansey had been in Henrietta -- almost two years. ... The third week (of June), someone killed Niall Lynch. The fourth week, Ronan moved in.
This is more for me than anything, because I’m really bad at envisioning time. The boys just finished their junior year. One year prior would be finishing sophomore year and the year before that would be finishing their freshman year.
The fall after Ronan and Gansey had become friends, the summer before Adam...
I think it’s that line that throws me. I keep trying to see the events stacked in order like a list, but reading it this way forces me to look at at horizontally, like looking at a horizon and trying to put placeholders along it.
Gansey begins at Aglionby for his freshman year
Befriends Ronan and they start to hunt Glendower together
Gansey purchases Monmouth and they start to alternate the hunts and cleaning it up
It was nearly ready the summer they completed their freshman year
Niall died the third week of June and Ronan moved in
Adam transferred in for sophomore year
6 weeks later, he stopped to help Gansey at the side of the road
