funny, i've always loved going to the dentist.
Never loved it, but I’ve been pretty comfortable with it. My family dentist was located in a big refurbished house -- and it felt like a house, wrap-around porch and fishtanks and endless Highlights magazines and everything -- plus it was next door to the town library, so I’d wander across the grass and peruse the stacks until my parents fetched me. It was a very comforting atmosphere.
(In a weird twist of fate, my lifelong dentist is Dr. George Hardy, aka the dad in cult classic Troll 2. No, seriously. But that’s another story. Long story. Bang-up dentist, capped my front tooth when it broke age 15, we went to the same church, didn’t know he was in a batshit movie until I was in high school.)
But I haven’t had major Tooth Adventures done in years, so going into a new place with new eyes has been an experience, especially when weird machines and gear are involved. It’s incredibly intimate and of course therefore very exploitable.
