Comes Crashing Down
The rapid tap of metal feet echoed in the empty corridors. HANNA knew where to find the agent, the one he’d grown to trust over the year and even considered a friend. Elijah Jayne. His circuits seared as emotions clashed and shredded one another; it was too much to handle. He’d never felt the chill of betrayal, nor the burning that followed in one sweeping wave.
When he located Eli, the robot’s body shuddered and came to a jolting halt as something, everything, began to malfunction. Weapons were activating and deactivating before they could even fire, and he could barely register his own thoughts as they were torn and pieced back like different puzzles being forced together. Even if all he had were ghosts of the feelings he’d experienced in his brief time as a human were all he had now, it was still so, so much.
“You knew!” His voice was glitched, a computerised quiver. “You knew what they’re using the humans for! And you...” He raised his head, peering at Eli. The core in the centre of his chest began to flicker. “You kept it secret from me, this whole time?”
