Mam, Sir?
Recently in December 2012, we went out on the street to give food packages to the garbage men and women. When we were riding on the car, we took a glimpse on a lone garbage woman sat on the bus station bench.
When I approached her, I handed her the food package and said aloud: "Hi, Mam! We are just giving out package!"
Then my friend nudged me: "Sir?"
That was before I had a good look on her face before I realized that I was talking to a transverstite. He had a big body and a large orange suit so I did not quite realize that the 'Mam' was a he. I thought he was a she from his feminine body gesture.
So I kind-of blabbered and said: "Um, I'm sorry? Sir?"
Then I realized again that he probably wouldn't want to be called a "Sir".
Well, it happened so fast and before I had a chance to say anything again, I just told him/her a Happy Holiday and continued the ride with my friends.

It didn't take long before I thought to myself:
I should have just asked his/her name.
Next time, next time, the question I will be asking is:
"Hi. My name is Aisa. What is your name?"

That was one of my highlights that day: take the time to know them a little bit.
