5 September 1939. 206 Sqn. Avro Anson Mk1 B-VX. (K6183) from RAF Bircham Newton was shot down over the Friesian Islands by German He.115 floatplane (M2+FH of 1./KuFlGr 160). First RAF WW2 combat loss. P.O. LH Edwards was the first RAF Officer taken POW. Three other crew KIA.
