A lonely soul sat upon a hillock, so utterly deserted and alone that even the plants withered and died. No life. No movement. No color. Despondent at their solitude, the soul looked into the sky in desperation. Surely another lonesome spirit could find them in their despair? As they gazed into the ashen colors that was the melancholy of their world, they saw something new, something different. A raven. The raven did not stand out because of color or flair, but because of motion. It was the only change the soul had ever seen in their somber existence. Enraptured by the beauty of the raven’s flight, the soul outstretched their hand— only to see that they themselves were already what they truly desired to be. Alive, and moving forward. -R. D.
