Hey, we aren't inherently gay because we have good fashion sense. We're inherently gay because we're inherently gay...Also I think our necks are shorter cismens' necks.

Language is Powerful
Everyday language is powerful. More powerful than most people acknowledge. People get annoyed when my roommate calls them out for using chick to refer a woman, or guys to refer to a group of people who are not exclusively male. Our friends say he takes to an unnecessary extreme, but the words we use shape the very way we think and perceive the world, and our realities mold to fix our dictionaries.
In Southern Italy, there is a no future tense. There is past and present, but no way of talking about the future. Sicilian people are infamously lethargic and unmotivated. Sicilian people's inability to use language to speak about the future prevents them from thinking about the future and planning ahead.
Language is everything. By continuing to use "guys" to address groups of people, we enforce the patriarchy. We enforce the notion that masculinity is more powerful than femininity, and that even one male individual overpowers other individuals. By referring to a group as male, we assume that being addressed as male is acceptable, because male is superior to other genders. We can stop this way of thinking. If we change our speech patterns, we can modify the way we think of the importance of male, female, and other genders.
