Welfare

I can’t decide whether we would be seen as extremely hardy like cockroaches or dramatic and they blink and we’re just…

I personally think we’d be a weird mix of the two. Humans are hardy and very adaptable to their environments. Probably fairly easy to keep alive but pet owners can also be unbelievably stupid.

BigBlaster: Hey guys. Just wanted to share that I may have dropped my human when I took them out to clean. Thought they were dead but apparently they’re fine. They broke 14 bones but the vet said they’ll recover.

Wingding00: Get better soon little guy. I went on a mission for a deca-cycle and forgot to leave any water. They were fine though. Came back and found them licking condensation off their tank. Oops.

Revmaxxer: Remember to cup them next time. Easy to forget how fast they are. Mines went missing and I found it an orbital later in a vent. They were shaken up for a while but hey, thought for sure they were gone.

SquishySential09: What the pit. Mines got stuck upside down in the corner of their tank for only a rotation and they were dead. My luck…

XxxSparkEaterxxX: I feel you. Mines managed to gets its servos on energon somehow. It was brutal.

Psychological reactions

On the other hand we have very intense needs which would be almost impossible to meet. Humans aren’t meant to live in captivity and quickly succumb to zoochosis and it would be near impossible to keep a happy/thriving human. I think the only work around is to provide lots of interaction and stimulus to where the human doesn’t register being a captive daily (but good luck with that)

AxelGind: so I’ve had my human for a oribtal now. First days were great. They were exploring and playing with me lots. They seemed to sleep more and move less as time went on so I tried to remove them from their nest. It BIT me? It’s never done that but now every time I even try to get near it it’s crouching low and growling at me showing its little denta. Think i might need to rehome if this continues :(

Pet outfits.

I love to think there’s a spectrum of pets kept with no clothing because it’s simply not seen as necessary, to pets given cute outfits to show how much their owners care about them, to owners who absolutely dress their humans up in the most ridiculous outfits they can find for the memes.

Enrichment

Humans are a paradox. We hate being bored but we crave routine. We enjoy games and play but as soon as it feels forced or condescending we don’t. We’re also kind of trolls. I see us being a bit like cats in the sense that I don’t care you bought you most expensive human toy you could find, this spare coil is much more interesting. Look i can ping it across the room! We’d also be all up in their business whether they like it or not.

SpeedyStreak: that’s it I’m not buying even one more toy for my human. I just spent my last pay check on a climbing frame and they’ve set up a ramp in the corner and are surfing the metal sheet from the box down it.

AFTerparty: I feel you. I bought them a big container to swim in. Every time I put them in it they’re just holding their breath and letting themselves sink to the bottom. They stare at me until I take them out. Their face turned blue one time and they just sat there.

RedRevs: Mines loves my data pad. Every report is covered in doodles and their footprints. I can’t get any work done because they’re just always standing on it. I have a report due tomorrow. Pray for me.

Food

I cant see cybertronians having a great sense of taste. I do however think they would be able to understand from our biology and evolution that we love sugar. This leads to bland, gross nutritional food and lots of yummy treats and I’m sure you can see where the problems would arise.

AxelGrind: Yeah definitely ignore those guys. No more treats for me. Mines turned feral. Woke up to them out of their cage and tearing everything on my desk apart looking for them.

Habitat

As with any pet care, I think the enclosures that they would use would drastically vary dependant on income, education, and unfortunately how much they care. On one end of the spectrum you’d have large terrariums with multiple biomes, programmable weather, and access to running water. On the other end of the spectrum you’d have the equivalent of a goldfish bowl with some cloths and soft things dumped inside. Generally I think bars would be avoided by even bad owners because they’re too easy for us to escape from or shove our heads through and get stuck.

Sentience

I imagine there’s a growing group of bots trying to argue against human pet keeping and protest that they’re sentient creatures. They’re not taken very seriously and most bots shut them down by saying they just want to frag them. I imagine it’s a hot topic though. There’s definitely bots who like to touch and frag their humans. Probably more closeted than they would ever guess. There’s probably sites dedicated to it that keep getting shut down.

Everyone is going on about humans being space cats... It's cute and all, but to me...HUMANS ARE SPACE RACCOONS/POSSUMS

-You were even empathic toward bots who changed sides, respecting their choices and reminding them that they can choose to do what they want as long as they no longer caused harm to Earth. 

-Perhaps it was thanks to you that Thundercracker or some other cons chose to join the Autobots. 

-You brought them much hope. Enough to keep going, and imagine a day when the Decepticons no longer threaten Earth, and possibly see the end of the war. 

-But they never imagined that the greatest pain you would ever face was to witness the destruction of your own world. The day when you lost everything you ever fought for. 

-Elita One, or Elita Prime as Optimus gave her the matrix, despite everything, still chose to follow the Decepticons idea and use Earth’s resources to restore Cybertron. 

-You begged her desperately not to do it — to not murder your world and everyone in it. 

-However, it was too late. The device Elita seized from the Decepticons was activated, which destroyed the Earth’s atmosphere. All humans, including your friends, family, and everyone you ever knew, and Earth’s fauna, suffocated to death. The Earth’s sun scorched all the flora, turning the planet into a barren wasteland. The Earth's oceans either boiled or froze, killing all its marine life. The sky lost its blueness, and not even a single blade of grass survived.

-Earth became a graveyard of the life it once possessed. 

-But clean from all obstructions for cybertronians to collect its resources. 

-The loss broke you. You screamed in agony and hatred. Barely restrained as you tried to attack Elita, calling her a murderer and swearing you would kill her. She ordered you to be taken into containment, considering what to do with you after taking all the resources Earth could offer. 

-Optimus could not believe it himself. He had thought that giving the Matrix to Elita would set her back on the right path, but she ended up doing the same thing he had tried to prevent Megatron from doing.

-Any form of bond they had was gone for good. He would demand that you be released, telling her she will not judge you for anything and that if she refused, he would do something regrettable.

-She relented, and you were released from containment. You were quiet and numb, stains of the tears you had shed painted your face. But instead of letting you go quietly, Elita proceeded to tell you that thanks to Earth, Cybertron will live. That, as the last survivor of your kind, you should feel honored to see what the necessary sacrifice allowed.

-You only looked at her with a silent glare. “I will never forgive a murderer,” you said.

-You then vanished from Cybertron. The last time your friends saw you, you had returned to your planet, which was now nothing but a lifeless rock. Kneeling on the ground while quietly staring into nothing. 

-Your friends felt guilty and awful. Those who had been on Earth and had befriended the humans left Cybertron, unable to bear the loss and the idea that Cybertron was only alive because of their human friends' deaths. Others felt guilty, too, even ashamed about how they felt glad to see Cybertron alive again. 

-Those who still remained could still find you in the same spot on Earth, staring into the distance, unmoving and not eating a single energon they left for you. Sometimes they would see you speaking to something that isn't there, making them think the sorrow was slowly driving you insane.

-Optimus would sometimes sit with you in silence, knowing that no word could fix the pain this devastation had brought you. 

-One of your former friends said something that gained a reaction out of you. They tried to make you see a silver lining, which made you furious. You ripped the Autobot badge from your chest and tossed it before them, swearing that you will never stand beside another Autobot again. You then walked away. 

-You never returned to that spot. Some of them tried to look for you, and some accepted that you would never want to see them again. That letting you go was the merciful thing they could do for you for now. 

-But soon changes happened on Cybertron. Nightmares plagued the bots. In their dreams, they saw the faces of humans and friends who had once looked at them with friendship and acceptance, now looked at them with hatred. Mysterious writings started appearing on Cybertron’s walls and surface, all containing hate and promises of revenge. How they owed a debt.

-Soon, the rivers of energon turned red. The color of humanity's lifeblood.

-Then there was even a worrisome occurrence. Bots telling how there was an infection that caused bots to go mad with rage and fight anyone without end. Which was gained by standing within a strange fog, or by the whispers of shadowy figures that began appearing out of nowhere.

-No one could explain what was happening. 

-But one thing was clear: peace was vanishing from Cybertron. 

-Some claimed it was a new weapon of the Decepticons. Some claimed it was the consequence of their decisions, the karmic debt of restoring Cybertron with the life of another world. 

-But then, one day, you suddenly appeared on Cybertron. However, there was something really wrong with you. 

-Your optics were red, red as blood. Dark energon with hues of red grew out of your frame. There was also a dark presence around you that could be seen by the bots near you. It was like your body was producing blackened air, and at a near distance, the bots could hear whispers of several voices.

-You then attacked, killing anyone on your path with the strength they had never seen you wield before. There was this maddened look on your face, and it was like there were other voices mixed with your own. 

-Elita faced you, and despite the other Autobots’ protest, she managed to plunge the star saber into your spark. For a moment, she thought she had won, and you were no more. 

-However, you did not go offline.

-You grabbed her arm, and for a moment, Elita saw not just you, but millions of human faces. They looked back at her with eyes filled with hatred. Hatred powerful enough for you to pull the star saber out of you and still live. 

-The wound in your chest poured forth energon. Not blue like cybertronians, but red like human blood. The Autobots watched as the spark within you turned red, burning like a sun. 

-Your energon suddenly set you on fire, encasing you in red and black flames. Your body convulsed as it began to change. A scream ripped out of your throat as wings sprouted out of your back. Horns slowly grew from your helm, making you hold it in pain as you also grew in size. Your frame then began glowing like it was melting, molding your body.

-The bots watched in horror. The dark energon only seemed to fuel the change.

-When the fire died down, you were completely changed. Your armor was scorched into pitch black, like the fire had scorched all the colors out of you, save for the lines that were blood red. You had horns and wings, giving you a strong resemblance to the chaos bringer, Unicron. The wound over your chest did not close, allowing the red spark to glow through. It also looked like you were bleeding from the crevices of your armor.

-Red tears endlessly streamed down your faceplate, tracing paths through the blackened metal no matter how many times they evaporated in the heat. And all around your frame and in the feathers of your wings opened several blood-red eyes.

-It was only then that the Autobots understood what you had become as they recognized those eyes. The same eyes that had been watching them in their nightmares. The eyes of the dead, now using you as their vessel.

-You had been possessed by all the souls that perished in Earth's destruction, all ended by Elita's hands. You had become, what words could only describe, the embodiment of pure hatred. Humanity's harbinger.

-You faced Elita again. However, this time, the battle became one-sided. You were now on a completely different level. 

-Elita fought with all her might, but the millions of souls within you fuelled your strength with hatred, allowing you to overwhelm her. Soon, she lost, and you ripped the Matrix of Leadership out of her hands. 

-She then watched as you held the Matrix in your hands and, with the strength of the vengeful souls, ripped it into pieces. You had destroyed the Matrix of Leadership. 

-Wounded, Elita could not get up. You then showed your foot against her chest, keeping her down. Some of the blood spilling from you, painting her frame. She told you to finish it. 

“Death is too good for you! “ you stated.

“They demand your blood.”

-She watched as many shadowy figures appeared beside you, humans, whose lives she had ended, who now stood around her. Watching and waiting.

“But I have a better idea…” You leaned down, staring into her. 

“Since you took our world, why don’t we live in this one, since it's our world’s blood that is running in its veins?” you suggested.

-Elita’s eyes widened when the souls spoke their agreement. 

“And since you cybertronians love fighting so much. How about I ensure you will continue to fight until all of you are dead,” you added. 

-You then suddenly transformed into a creature that reminded the bots of Earth’s bird, which Optimus recognized as a dove, a creature that humans once associated with peace. Though your form carried what could only be described as a bleeding spark.

-You released a cry and flew across Cybertron, turning Cybertron’s skies blood red. The crimson spark in your chest bled into their world, either setting things on fire or infecting any cybertronian that came near it into uncontrollable rage.

-Elita watched as shaded figures scattered around Cybertron, creating a fog that allowed more bots to be infected and fight each other.

What if Earth metals are stronger, denser, and more versatile? Whatever Cybertronian bodies are made of can't compare to it, and for the first time, they're the squishy ones. Bullets don't just bounce off their armor anymore- they penetrate. Their armor no longer qualifies as armor. Getting hit by bigger artillery, like tanks n' rockets, now can be severely debilitating or fatal. What if Earth's gravity is heavier than Cybertron's, making the bots slower, sluggish, and more susceptible to certain environments and conditions? Humans, by comparison, are seen as quick, agile, and absurdly adaptable.

What if Earth's rust is way worse than the type of rust Transformers have dealt with before? With how much metal is incorporated into human civilizations, rust can be anywhere. For the bots, junkyards are biohazard wastelands. And what if the bots themselves are more prone to oxidation while on Earth because of the oxygen and high moisture content? Maybe even long-term exposure to oxygen can have negative effects on transformers, their general health becoming compromised in ways they haven't yet encountered.

Large bodies of water would be horrifying for them. Imagine some flight bot getting shot down midair while above the ocean, and just...plummeting lower and lower into the depths, all sound disappearing, darkness engulfing them, and the overwhelming pressure of the water rendering them more and more unfunctionable. As their senses are stripped one by one, they aren't sure what will kill them first- the crushing ocean depths, or the suffocating anxiety that comes from being completely helpless.

This makes me think of when Starscream fell through the ice in that TFP episode, and if it weren't for the Apex Armor, I really don't think he would've survived the crushing force of the ocean and the all-consuming cold of the arctic. Mind you, Optimus and Arcee almost FROZE to death in the arctic because shit was just THAT cold! If Transformers are that naturally sensitive to freezing temperatures, then sinking into icy glacier water should be a death sentence.

Now the transformers aren't at a complete disadvantage here on Earth- they are still very big and strong, and could definitely still do damage to man-made environments and humans themselves. But they can no longer act as recklessly as they do, because now there are physical consequences to being careless. Bigger bots can still take a hit and come out alive, but smaller bots are unfortunately more vulnerable. Getting hit by like,, a train might just KO them, due to the force, speed, and metal density. If it's a big enough vehicle, cars could ram and knock a bot off their feet, maybe even mangling their legs in the process.

There are so many little factors that could be detrimental to the bots that I could ramble about, but I wanna turn the focus onto the most underestimated threat to Transformers of Earth...humans...

Yes, a 10-ton space robot would absolutely body a human. The same way a human can step on an ant and kill it. but if there are enough ants...if their teeth are sharp enough, and if they're angry enough, ants can become a PROBLEM Bugs are a really good comparison to humans on how, if we're motivated enough and have support in numbers, we can be an absolute menace to other creatures bigger than us. Given how human teeth are strong enough to bite through or deform some metals, and in some cases, even eat metals (like that guy who legit ate a whole fkin plane), and with the bots' bodies being made of softer stuff than earth alloys...ya feel what I'm putting down here...?

Humans are scraplets ◉‿◉

As a transformer, the last thing you want is losing track of a human, only to feel them climbing onto you, hanging just out of reach, biting your plating and wriggling in deeper like a termite to tear at wires and squishy protoform. One bitey human is bad enough- but now imagine a group of rampant, angry humans swarming you, biting, tearing, bending, and snapping anything they can get hold of. Humans, when we fear for our lives or the lives of our loved ones, we go fuckin feral. When weapons aren't an option, our own bodies become the weapon.

For Transformers, it's not just human militaries they have to stay cautious of, but just humans themselves. Which, ultimately, makes allying with humans actually really beneficial. Their ace up their sleeve, so to speak, is a human. "It's dangerous to go alone. Take this...his name is John."

It also adds a new interesting angle to transformer x human pairings.

Human: "This robo titan could crush me in it's metal hands. But I love and trust them not to do that." (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶) Transformer: "This squishy scraplet could maul me from the inside out with it's mouth bones. But I love and trust them not to do that." (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶) I have so many ideas for this concept and how helpful humans could end up being for their bot buddies. Like, because transformer plating being more susceptible to damage than Earth metals, I love the thought of humans with a talent for welding coming up to their bot buds like, "Hey, I made you some armor!" (ᵔᗜᵔ) The armor:

Transformers entering their medieval armor era be like,,

They can't playfully poke, prod, pinch, nudge or touch you without leaving a mark if they're not thoughtful enough.

Knowing that you can't lay on their chestplate or sit on their shoulders for too long because it makes your body ache (and they feel guilty the longer you stay and tell them you're fine)

Understanding that humans are tactile creatures, and wanting to be more physically comforting to you, but their size make that a taxing challange.

They wish sometimes that they could hold your hand instead of holding you in theirs.

When their cuteness aggression flares up, they can't engage with you too enthusiastically without hurting you.

Wished they could personally patch up your injuries or pamper you as easily as you can them, due to your small and accessible stature.

Seeing you bundled up in many cozy things and believing that you will always be more comfortable surrounded by things softer than they are.

Pining for the expierence of being tangled up in a mountain of blankets with you and cuddling together.

Yearning to be able to trace your freckles, moles, scars and stretchmarks without having to be so wary of their own strength.

Longing to hold your hands in theirs and dance the night away.

They want to help you with menial household tasks, like folding laundry or washing the dishes, but they're only able to watch you do it all.

Craving to share in your delight when cooking and tasting new treats just so they can feel closer to you.

Wanting to handpick a bouquet of flowers or collect little trinkets to gift you, but their big and obtrusive builds make rummaging through nature very frustrating, and they can't help but feel incompetent.

They wish they could lay their head on your lap and feel your body rise and fall with every measured breath and every rhythmic pump of your heart.

Failing to notice your many little physical quirks and habits because of the drastic height difference, and feeling like a letdown because of it. —————

Thinking about kissing your Transformers figure and it comes alive.... some decepticons like Soundwave, would be confused about their surroundings and their new size, adjusting to their new environment and scanning their surroundings to find a way to escape your room. Others like Starscream and Megatron would just straight up fire their canons at you,u demanding you to "release them of this small and tiny body". however their attempts are futile as their cannons aren't functional, and the best that they can do is make some noises and shoot a laser beam at you. You can't help but laugh at how funny the situation is. The Autobots have a better time adjusting to their new life and giant friend, though Bumblebee can be quite clumsy with his new body and may slip into the small cracks of your bookshelf or underneath the bed. Ratchet is quite concerned about their new body and how it doesn't need energon anymore to survive. Optimus is worried about the whereabouts and well-being of the rest of the Autobots. many questions run in his processor, such as: where are we? Who are you? What is a human? Have fun explaining to an old bot how their entire existence and long war is just some kind of sick and twisted entertainment for sparklings.

Your electronics and other appliances are not safe from them either, as these bots might be curious enough to stick their servo inside a toaster. Adventurous bots like Hot Rod might treat your toilet flush as some sort of wave that they can ride as they quietly sneak into your toilet at 3 am, you wake up and hurriedly try to catch them before they get flushed away. The insecticons might crawl up your vents, thinking that it would be a great place to call their home. Constructicons would make makeshift buildings out of soda cans or any trash that they could find lying around until your place smells awful and attracts quite a lot of rats and flies.

Of course there would be some fun times as well with them, your Bluestreak figure can ramble all he wants as you fall asleep and you can show him tiktoks and podcasts that the both of you are interested in. Swerve of course would be one of the bots that would assimilate to his situation pretty easily with him roughly knowing human culture from watching sitcoms and together you two can watch all of your favourite series, movies, or whatever and introduce him to a lot of human culture and expiriences. There's always going to be a fun time withJazz and Blaster around. However, your neighbours would say otherwise with the loud music that you guys listen to. At night, they would play you tunes to help you relax, study or prepare for your upcoming exams, assignments, job interview, anything really. You would bring Hound on trips to see the beautiful places in your hometown and watch the sunset or stargaze on the beautiful night together

They are shits, but they are your little shits. You take these sentient toys with you whenever you can to let them see the world outside of the war, and maybe just maybe they can finally take a breath and finally rest happily ever after.
