A Practice in Self-Restraint
Eating trail mix properly takes some self-restraint. If I'm not careful, I will eat all of the chocolate chips first, then plow through the dried fruit and almonds, leaving nothing behind but some tired cashews and a wad of sticky raisins. Recently, I made it to the bottom of the bag and still had a chocolate chip or two to go. Wow! I am such an adult right now! I congratulated myself. Waking up early to exercise? Saving for retirement? Child's play. But someone who can make it through a bag of trail mix without dumping it out into a bowl for easy chocolate chip access? That is one self-actualized individual.
