The field was bright and sweet-smelling as the odd pair traversed it. The television man kept high-stepping as he tried to avoid the ticklish grasses from getting up his pants legs. The small girl was more interested in the way the grass released clouds of perfume when touched.
RGB was glad he didnât have a nose. âDo keep up, Hero,â he said smartly, swinging his cane with a laziness that didnât match his pace.
âBut I found flowers! And theyâre looking at me!â Hero pointed at a bed of purplish flowers surrounding her feet. Each was equipped with one round eyeball, right in the center.
RGB looked back and her, taking in the flowers. âAh. Those are dai-sees, they can see your future. Trust me, you donât want to mess with them.â
âAww but theyâre cute!â As RGB took her hand to gently tug her away, she plucked one, watching it as it watched her. As she gazed at the yellow iris, she saw flickers of colors and of light, water and darkness, and so much more. But none of it made sense, and it was only flashed of possible tumultuous futures.
It confused her, but didnât really scare her. Not having a good place to stash the flower, Hero stealthily tucked it into RGBâs jacket pocket, where it looked at her with a bemused expression. She smiled back at it before continuing to look ahead into the soft, watery light.

There was a weight in his arms. Not a dead weight, mind; a huffing, puffing, breathing weight, but easy to carry it was not. In fact, the kid squirmed a lot in her sleep; the hero occasionally kicking out with a leg, or ticcing wit her head, nose burying itself in the crook of his shoulder occasionally, before moving to slump over the side of his arms. RGB sighed, shifting minutely under the tree, repositioning and recentering the sleeping child so as to prevent a tumble off his lap. The term âsnugglebugâ shimmied its way into RGBâs head; a human word, but one that had a distinct truth to it when compared to the definitely snuggly child, covered in her coat with her feet tucked dep under so she was one round ball, yet still managing to squirm and cause havoc for the protector who was steadily growing tired himself. Around the tree lay Doubts, arranged in clusters, and beyond them, just past the hem of the waters, fears; rearing and snapping angrily- yet RGB found that the warm mass in his arms kept them at bay, watching with a vindictive glare, held away by the conviction that everything would be okay, that the mass sleeping against him,which he cared for, would be safe and was his kid, giving him the confidence and clarity that they were untouchable by negative emotions, with nothing able to reach the pair. Is this what it feels like to care for someone? Something deep inside RGB insisted that yes, it was, and the telly-head held the sleeping kid in his arms just a little tighter as the sun began to rise over the trees.
