Nintendo Labo Variety Kit: Fishing Rod    Yesterday I posted about the Toy-Con RC Car, and today I’ll post about the Toy-Con Fishing Rod. As someone who wouldn’t like real life fishing, this fishing game is really fun. Building it can take about 90-150mins estimated, making is ‘reel’ interesting making the actual reel. There’s a little piece with a music note on it that’s only use is to make a nice clicking noise as you spin the reel. The cardboard is pretty sturdy and the fishing rod being connection by the string to Switch holder gives really good feedback. Using rubberbands the string is able to automatically wind back up into the Switch holder. It’s pretty interesting seeing it all work, and now I’ll explain what’s all in the fishing game.    In the fishing game, you can catch three different fish to get a score. Which doesn’t necessarily matter but if you want to catch three big catches in a row that’s what you can go for. To hook a fish you got to pay attention, you can see the fish coming towards your hook and as soon as you hear the sound or the rumble of them bite it you immediately start reeling them or else they can get off the hook just as fast as they got on, if they’re harder fish at least. You can catch fish from Mackerel and Sea Breams to Giant Crabs and Sharks. Of course the harder the fish the harder it will be to reel them in especially since they can break your line. Also everything you manage to catch will be put into an Aquarium, that’s separate from this game, for you to view your trophies. And funny thing is you can actually create your own little fish in the Aquarium. Do you see the little cardboard card above that looks like half a fish? Well using cards like that in the Piano, while still in the Aquarium, you can scan a shape you make and can use the different keys on the Piano to catch it’s colors and symbols on it’s body. And after you make them they’ll swim around in your Aquarium AND will appear in the actual fishing game, you can make yourself more fish to try and catch.    This Toy-Con is pretty fun, especially if you want to share the experience with someone who likes actual fishing. The only con for me about this is that my left arm got a bit stiff from just holding the rod and not moving my left hand as much, which I’m sure is pretty realistic in it’s own way, but still fun none the less. Nintendo Labo Variety Kit: House    The Toy-Con House is probably the strangest official Toy-Con currently, not that it’s a bad thing. As you can tell there’s a small cat like creature inside this house. To my knowledge the creature doesn’t have a name, the black hole that surrounds it’s eyes is also it’s mouth. You can see that by feeding it a variety of food that it will absorb through it’s face. Though don’t think that this game is just about watching and feeding this creature, unless that’s your thing, there’s actually a couple of different mini-games hidden in this house as well.    The way to play these mini-games, is by using the plug-ins: Key, Pump, and Crank, and placing them in the left, right or bottom holes. There’s also a fourth plug-in called Cable, but it does is create two portals in the house which will pull in all food alongside the creature through the portals. Anyway, back to the original three plug-ins. It would take entirely too long to describe what every different combination does as you plug them into the holes. Most of the mini games can be figured out by putting one plug-in into the bottom and one to the side, in many different variations. Using the plug-ins by themselves makes do smaller things, like the Key being turned makes water fill the room through a faucet. I believe altogether there’s 9 mini-games and I think two or maybe three model viewers using different combinations of all three plug-ins at once.    And the reward for these mini-games, is food for the creature. Now you don’t actually have to feed it, it won’t die or anything, but what the food does is change the color of hair on top of the body, the hair of the main body, and the style of the hair on the body. As you can see above my creature is sporting a mustache on it’s fur. In order to change it’s fur you have to win wrapped candy from the mini-games, which can be earned by doing the mini-game perfectly, and then feed the candy to the creature to change it. And if you’re worried about having to re-earn the candy again to get a design back, one of the mini-games helps saves your creatures current settings into a new candy that becomes saved in this one room.   This Toy-Con will probably the hardest to get random people into since it’s concept is so different than the others, but people who like weird little creatures and feeding the thing will probably enjoy it while also hopefully enjoying the mini-games it offers.

There's some type of Godzilla function (non-official though). It's sad that this one is so expensive.
