The Towson Apple Store Is Closing
An Apple Store that has been part of Towson Town Center in Maryland for more than two decades is set to close permanently. The location first opened in 2001 and was one of the earliest Apple Stores in the company's retail history, making its closure the end of a long chapter for both Apple and local shoppers.
Apple says employees at the store will continue working with the company at nearby locations, and the company remains committed to serving customers in the area. The closure does not appear to be part of a broader retail pullback, as Apple continues investing in newer and larger store locations elsewhere.
For many Apple fans, the Towson store holds a special place in the company's history. It was among the first wave of stores launched when Apple was still proving that its retail strategy could succeed, long before the Apple Store became a global fixture.
Comment:
It's easy to think of retail locations as interchangeable, but some end up becoming landmarks for an entire era of technology. A store that's been around since the early days of the iPod and Mac OS X carries a lot more history than its square footage suggests.
