Toviah
"Toviah.â My The Prince of Egypt Fanfic. Â
Moses walked down upon the stone stairs, away from the large palace. He was completely heart broken. His tears dripped down from his aging face. His hand would touch the stone walls as his other hand held his staff. The walls were cold and rough, uncomfortable and dirty. He saw none of his people as he walked alone down the cold alleyways. His mind was filled with his thoughts about the tragic death of his nephew, and the outcome of his death that lead to his bond with Rameses becoming broken. Moses understood that there was no going back. He could not look back, there was no reason to. Yet, as he walked alone from the palace, there were hints of sunlight that gleamed the walls of the alleyway and even on the dirt ground. Within a few minutes of walking, he could feel the warmth of the sun enveloping him. It was only a short time before he didnât feel the cold atmosphere at all.
He reached the hut where he would have found his wife, along with his siblings. But, they werenât there. Most of the shelters were completely empty. There were some that had his people inside, frightened. But, as Moses passed along, they soon began to come out. One house at a time, a family would take their belongings and leave their rough houses and follow Moses down the alleyways. Moses followed to where most of his people were gathering, hoping to find his family. He eventually found his family, noticing Tziporrah first before the others.
âMoses.â His beloved wife ran towards him and embraced him with loving arms. Moses enveloped her gently, burying his face on her neck. His eyes were closed for only a few seconds, with his thoughts fully focused about the tragedy that struck upon the Egyptians and his nephew. Moses opened his saddened eyes to view his people walking out from their shelters, and peering from his view were Miriam and Aaron standing amongst the crowd with someone standing in between them.
The person standing between them was an elderly woman. She was almost the same height as Miriam, though her back was crouched. Her hair was white with her cloak wrapped on her head and dangled down to her feet. She held a cane with her hand for support, and wore no shoes. The cloak would hide her bare feet from view, as well as her clothing from underneath. This elderly woman could have been anyone grateful who had come to see the man who will deliver them from Egypt, yet something drew Moses towards this woman. A reminiscence of a facial figure that eternally imprinted his mind. Her emotional brown eyes and her old but blissful face. Could this be? Could it really be her? The woman in the river?
Moses released Tziporrah, and walked towards the woman between Miriam and Aaron. His eyes could look at no other face but hers, and the woman done the same. The more closer Moses was to the woman, the more his mind expanded like a strong gust of wind. He was completely speechless. The realization of his reminiscences with Miriam during his teenage years was powerful enough, but this was completely different. This face was not like Miriamâs face, where only a familiar figure was shown from the original face laying deep within his memory. This was the exact face of the woman he remembered upon a river as he laid adrift in a basket. It was her. It was really her.
She was smiling gracefully as Moses stopped in front of her with tearful eyes. They both stared at one another, the tension between them was present. The luminous heat from the sun had melted the coldness away, and all that was left was a blanket of sweet happiness. His breath was taken away as the thought of the lullaby she had sang to him, and her bittersweet face with her young brown hair floating in the winds while inside the basket was playing in his mind.
âHello, mother.â He only spoke those words.
Her soft wrinkled fingers caressed his soft cheeks, as well as his beard. Her smile could withstand any circumstance she was put through. Everything having to do to what she went through was all forgiven due to her beloved sonâs smiling face. Her tears would drip down gracefully from her old weary eyes and down her face, and the tears dropped into the ground. Tip. Tap. Tip. Tap. The sound of her tears could only have been heard, as well as the wind blowing towards them.
âToviah, my son.â She spoke with such a blissful song in her heart. Her tears still dripped down from her wrinkled cheeks. âMy beloved son.â
Mosesâ knees gave way, falling on the ground. He took his arms and embraced her softly, for her old body could tremble. Moses closed his eyes, and lived the moment of being with his mother again. The one who had risked her life to save his. He was completely and utterly thankful for this woman, Yocheved, who had done whatever she did for him to live the life he lived. Moses understood and decided that he would rather have lived his life as it was than to live no life at all. He kissed her old soft hand, gently. He looked upon her happy face.
âMy, how youâve grown.â She stuttered.
Mosesâ hand was placed upon her hand, which was placed on his cheek. He couldnât hold his tears any longer and dripped down, even a tear had touched Yochevedâs hand. âMother.â Moses spoke softly, holding her hand. âThank you.â Those were the words he could only speak without breaking apart. He became emotional, almost weeping. He couldnât be more grateful to have this moment with his real mother. A moment he believed that he would never have if it werenât for her. Tuya loved Moses, like a mother would, but she was never his real mother. Yet, if Moses had not reunited with Yocheved now, he would have been sorrowful due to never seeing his real mother again. This was a bond that no one, not even Tuya, could take away. And to hear his real name being said, he could not be happier than what he felt now. Though, still hurt by the broken bond between him and Rameses, he felt Yocheved healing his every wound and every bruise with a simple, sweet smile. Moses choked on his own words. âAnd I love you, Mother.â
âToviah, I love you so much.â She smiled sweetly. Her soft wrinkled hands wiped every tear falling from Mosesâ eyes. Her soft wrinkled hand was kissed again, embracing this happy moment with her beloved son. Toviah, who she thought would never be seen from her again, was now kneeling in front of her, weeping.
A hand was pressed on his shoulder, Miriamâs hand. Moses looked up at Miriam, who was smiling down upon him. Moses stood up from the ground and looked around to see his people gazing at him. All of their faces, no longer filled with fear, but filled with hope. Hope for a better future, a better future for their loved one. Moses looked at Miriamâs hopeful face, and smiled at her.
âLet us go now.â He said to Miriam, smiling. He then turned his attention to the crowd, who were all still gazing at him. âAll of us.â And indeed, they all left the city of Thebes. They followed behind Moses, leaving behind what had overpowered them for so long. Every statue and stone, every grain of sand that bolted them to this very place held no power now. Within a few hours, Mosesâ people had completely left Thebes and traveled towards the Red sea.

This fanfic was inspired by a drawing @skmn-m had with Moses embracing Yocheved. I love that picture so much, bless your soul. <3 I hope you all enjoy this story, and all of you have a good day/night.Â
i spend my nights playing card games and intensely debating the differences between madarin oranges, tangerines, and clementines.
